Cycling race 2:10:00
Stars MTB-O. I wasn't going to do this race until Bash told me that camping was still open, so the prospect of a fun night away with Earl quashed any concerns I had about embarrassing myself! Greg D. came up and camped as well and it was a perfect fall evening for a campfire and (maybe a few too many!) beers.
When I did this race last Hermes and I rode together, got distracted probably talking about how wonderful Taylor Swift is, got lost and pretty much gave up and focused on taking funny pictures instead. My goal for this time was to try to get through the course, and well I made it but about 10 minutes overtime unfortunately!
Things started well. I don't use a map board which meant lots of stopping and starting to look at my map but I felt like I was paying good close attention. I had a minor screw-up on 4 and then things went well until between 9-10 where I missed an intersection and got pretty confused (it happens easily!). Met up with Tracy Roth who had suffered the same fate so we backtracked and figured out our mistake and rode the next few controls together. When we punched 13 we realized we were going to be a bit late but saw that 14 and 15 were kinda on the way back so decided to get them. Overall, I'd say it didn't go as badly as I expected and I wished we'd had more of these races as they are so much fun!
It would have been lovely if the weather had stayed as good as it had been the day before, but the rain and mud and slick leaves just added to the excitement! Thanks to Bash and the other STARS for putting on this such a great event!
