Adventure Racing race 7:55:00 [3]

Simpy and I got part of the BiT band back together for RockstAR. I was thrilled but also nervous when he asked me to race with him. He agreed that we'd just have a fun day out in the woods, and heat and bugs aside, we definitely did!

We enjoyed a lovely paddle at the start, relishing every minute that wasn't spent overheating and swatting the bugs! From there, we rode partway down the road and got 51, which is when the heat reality set in. We had planned to get two other trekking CPs on the way down south to the higher point CPs, but decided to postpone these for the way back as the trek into CP51 had been so miserable already!

The bike out was lovely, but I found the heat pretty unbearable in the woods when we went in for 120 and 130 (or whatever they were!). We started filling our bike bottles with water and dumping them over ourselves to keep cooler. It worked, and the ride back wasn't as terrible as I thought it might be.

We went back into the boats for a tour of Bark Lake, getting all the logical ones from the water, then did some of the fun ones on foot. The SUP and underwater CPs are two of my favourites, and I really enjoyed the new Search for the Stars. I would have happily stayed at CP Roxy for awhile with a couple of cold cans of Mill St. Organic!

With just one hour left we tried the slingshot CP, missed, and decided not to wait out our penalty. We did one last out and back to get 30, 31 and 72, and came in with just enough time to not worry about being over, which I consider the perfect way to end a race like this!

Of course, there are a few things I'd do differently in hindsight, like not getting 51 separately on the way out but going for it after 72, but overall, I thought we had a great and fun day out there and simpy more than fulfilled his commitment to me of not being an a$% (not that I was really worried). This is always one of my favourite weekends of the summer and even with the heat, it was an absolute blast!

Biking at 3 Stage with Greg and Amber. It was the most absolutely perfect riding conditions with nice warm temperatures but no bugs! The trails were in great shape and there were tons of riders out enjoying the beautiful day. We were so reluctant to leave we had an impromptu parking lot picnic before heading home.
