Paddling 1:00:00 [3]

I would have stayed on Site 5 for both nights but it was already booked for Saturday, we were moving just one lake up onto Horse Lake. We knew that rain was coming so aimed to get to the next site and get set up while it was still relatively dry. We had one portage to get over to Horse Lake and were successful in getting tents and a big tarp set up before the rain started. In between bouts, we took the canoe out again and explored a couple lakes up, never seeing a soul!

It rained all afternoon but we were cozy in tarp town on our hammocks. We went out for one more short adventure for happy hour #2 over to an island on the lake, which had a campsite that was currently decommissioned. I had collected a pile of firewood when it was dry and left it under the tarp so once the skies cleared, we were able to have a nice big fire!

Paddling 1:00:00 [3]

I really enjoyed the paddling trip I took with Amber and Eco in the Haliburton Water Trails on the July long weekend so immediately booked another one when I got home! Greg came with me on this trip, which was light on the paddling, but still tons of fun!

Friday we started at the Margaret Lake Access Point. I love that you don't have to check in to get your permit or pay for parking! We paddled across Margaret Lake, and had a short portage into Dan Lake. The map showed another short portage into McEwen, but we were able to paddle through with one small lift up. We were shocked to find that the lake was empty, and it stayed that way the entire night! I had booked our site (5) after reading about how lovely it was on someone's blog, and it did not disappoint! You could have fit about 8-10 tents on it and it had a beautiful long rock for water access, and a nice fire pit overlooking the lake.

Trekking/Hiking 2:20:00 [3]

Headed up to where I left off on the Bruce Trail to start the Iroquois section. I was planning on a long run, but I didn't find a lot of it super runnable. The first hour or so was lovely, with a climb up Grimsby Mountain, but the last couple of hours, while nice, were pretty much the same: narrow, green, prickly singletrack with lots of slippy, sweaty rocks.

I saw one decent sized snake and got stung once by a decent sized something. Other than that, it was pretty uneventful!
