Snowshoeing 1:10:00 [3]

I'm glad that Eco tracked this as I had no idea how long it took us to get out and back to our campsite, but the way out sure did feel long as I struggled to understand the behaviour of my pulk, quickly nicknamed Satan. I will admit I was hauling out a tad more gear than necessary, which may have caused some of his spontaneous "roll over and play dead" moves, but I also think there's some engineering tweaks to be made to leverage Satan's full potential. Hauling him up the hills was nothing short of arduous, but it was well worth it when we found the perfect campsite!

Orienteering race 47:00 [2]

My sister and nephew joined me to do the beginner's course of the TOC O-Cup at Ward's Island. This is the same nephew I took canoeing in the fall and my sister is hoping that orienteering is something that will be up his alley. Based on yesterday, I think she might be right! I am not sure what he liked more: punching the controls or the giant container of snack mix that was at the end. ;-)

This was such a fun course that made use of the really unique features on Ward's Island. My favourite was for sure the three controls in the hedge maze. I wasn't sure if Finley would run at all, but he took off like a shot at the start...then petered out pretty good by the halfway mark. I am not sure if hte 45 minute time limit was hard or not, but we were a couple of minutes over, getting all but two controls available. I think this race set a high bar for my nephew if he does another one, which I am hoping he will!
