Sunday Jan 6

Skiing 1:00:00 [2]
Due to delays and a long drive to get underway, this turned out to be an easy ski day rather than a race. Easy classic around Tech Trails with some double pole work.

Saturday Jan 5

Running 10:00 [1]
AM shakeout run.
Skiing race (Skate Sprint) 3:30 [5]
Felt good in warmup, but pretty poor during the race. Right from the start my legs felt heavy and slow. I was thinking about things that I shouldn't have been, like the snows really messed up here or I can't really see that girl that started ahead of me. I didn't really commit to the downhill; I should have tucked it or tried to free skate it. I did something in between that certainly couldn't have been that fast. My turn and transitions were ok, but I just didn't have power or speed to back it up. I'm dead tired. Nationals has managed to kill me big time this year. Team sprint up next...
Skiing (Warmup/Cooldown) 1:20:00 [3]
Good warmup before race. 20min level 1, 2x 3min level 3, and some short level 5 sprints and starts.

Cranky cooldown along the 5k course. Took it easy execpt for the downhills (which are always good for me to work on) and some of the uphills.

Friday Jan 4

Skiing 30:00 [2]
Skate on sprint course before race tomorrow with pickups and starts.

Thursday Jan 3

Skiing race (10k Classic Race) 30:00 [5]
Very difficult classic race. I still need more work with striding, but downhills went fairly well.
Skiing (Warmup/Cooldown) 1:20:00 [2]
Running 10:00 [1]
Easy am shakeout run.

Wednesday Jan 2

Skiing 45:00 [1]
Easy classic ski with some pickups.

Tuesday Jan 1

Skiing race (5k Skate) 16:00 [4]
1st race of US Nationals. 5k skate. Course was really tough, with challenging downhills and really tough uphills. By the end of the race I was completely worked. At 86th, I placed better than last year, but didn't beat my goal of doing better than my place at US XC running nationals (84th).
Running 20:00 [1]
Easy shakeout run in downtown Houghton.
Skiing (Warmup/Cooldown) 1:15:00 [3]
Warmup/cooldown for skate race.

Monday Dec 31

Skiing 1:00:00 [2]
Skate training day on Michigan Tech Trails at Houghton, MI. 5 pickups (3 15s, 2 30s).
