Swim 35:00 [3] 1.34 mi (26:07 / mi)

swam at the Y in San Diego, wore the 350 to see distance and something was off because it showed that I swam 1.3 mi in like 32 minutes, which can't be right. It was fun anyway. Bought some proper swim goggles at REI that cover more of my face, not sure that I like them given that they either are pulling on my face or letting water in at the cheek. I'm sure they look tough tho, all that matter. Swimming is good at this point, different from what I thought it was. I roll onto my side and put my ear to my bicep, try to delay the stroke until other arm is in front of head, I wonder on that point if what is happening is that there is an optimum speed at which the arm is moving through the water with best speed and best drag, have to ask 002. Tried to get some stationary trainer riding it, that lasted about 10 min, gyms suck.

Run (Slow Race Pace) 1:16:00 [3] 8.0 mi (9:30 / mi)
shoes: Asics Nimbus 9

Good run about San Diego, did the loop through the path and around the naval center. Moderate exertion, moderate distance, thought it would be faster, oh well, hippos are deadly too.

Run 1:09:00 [4] 8.0 mi (8:37 / mi)
ahr:157 max:179 rhr:78 slept:6.0 weight:217lbs

Race Pace eight miles, hard run, left me squashed for the rest of the night, no drinking or gels during the run, shouldn't be cavalier about going w/out supplies, wore wool socks, bottom of feet abraided somewhat. Felt strong most of the time. Ran on side of trace in the grass, seems to make about a 10 sec/mi pace difference. Also, a big difference in knee sensitivity.

Core (5 stage) 30:00 [1]

standard core workout

Swim (Quality) 40:00 [2]

35 laps pretty easy, working on some technique, seems to slide me through the water better, rolling onto side/back, paying attention to what happens mechanically when head is in a certain position and what direction limbs can go in when torso is in what position. I've noticed that if you twist more onto the side, the head can breath looking more backward, not twisting up to the side, which keeps the long body position much straighter and also allows the arm to come up the side of the body instead of over the back (if chest was more facing down). Still struggling with keeping at least one hand in front of head, the benefits are that obvious except that the long body is easier to keep. Did a couple sprint laps to see how the form felt, felt good and fast, makes me tired. I think the swimming is what has changed the game for me the most, its easier to feel 'over trained' now that I'm doing a swim and either a bike or run almost every day. Its not as easy to get the heart rate up on B or R, but the power output is still there, not sure what that means.

Bike 3:28:00 [3] 50.0 mi (4:10 / mi)

COLD, tired from the swim and core workout this morning, not sure why I'm not feeling it today. Have too much work on my mind to be strong in the ride. Ride wednesday then maybe the 12 hour race this coming weekend. COLD

Bike (Endurance Hills) 5:34:34 [4] 64.31 mi (5:12 / mi)
ahr:136 max:201 slept:5.0 weight:216lbs

Long climbing ride in SoCal on 002's Madone. Wore a Camelback, pretty much only ate gels because that what was on hand. Stopped at 20 and had a Turkey sandwich, stopped at 50 and bought a gallon of water. Drank Cytomax with boost whole time, felt strong until after started drinking straight water, started to cramp in the middle of a steep long climb, cramped in the adducters (? inner thigh) stood and stretched, was able to make it all the way back w/out further camping. Wasn't the fastest ride but I would say that 65 miles of fairly steep climbing is substantial.

Run (distance) 1:40:40 [2] 9.32 mi (10:48 / mi)
ahr:147 max:170 rhr:76 slept:8.0 weight:216lbs shoes: Brooks 01

Good run in San Diego, went down the Navy medical center way from downtown, some off road, some slow climb, some very steep hill, felt strong, no water, knees are telling me to stop that very soon. Need to get a set of new shoes

Swim (quality) 45:00 [2]
ahr:145 max:154 rhr:78 weight:217lbs

Swimming at the Y in San Diego has been a pleasant experience, unf chlorine, Some improvement, trying new approaches to the stroke, felt like I could have swam a bunch more, had to get out of town to get to 002's to sleep, got lost.

ahr:150 max:185 rhr:76 slept:5.0 weight:219lbs shoes: Brooks 01

First speed workout. Performed intervals of three minutes on then three minutes of walking for complete recovery. Thought about speed and reflexes, not sprint work but probably at the high end of what any extended speed would be for me. A couple of 6:40 mile pace for half hour surprised me. feel moderately sore afterwards, taking accelerade because its available.
