ARDF (2m) 1:35:11 [3] *** 8.5 km (11:12 / km)
5c shoes: Brooks Running 20

2m US ARDF Champs at Umstead Park! 1st woman, 3rd overall! This actually went moderately decently aside from one transmitter. I heard transmitter 1 off in the corner of the map furthest from the finish, so I planned to go to that one first, but as I came out of the exclusion zone, 4 was so blastingly loud and 1 was so quiet, that I briefly considered going to 4 first. I decided to head up the nearest hill to get a better bearing, and determined that actually 1 was just kind of low down, so I continued on my way to 1. I got close to 1 on-cycle and then managed to find it off-cycle while I was just jogging along the trail. I headed back to get 4, which I also found off-cycle.

By then I knew that 5 and 2 were over on the other side of the map and that 5 was the next one to take. I thought I was further away from the trail than I was at 4, so I took a fairly stupid route choice to 5, but found it without too much trouble off-cycle. I then proceeded to make a total mess of number 2. I was getting reflections on 2 down in some reentrants, and I was sure that some of the transmitters would be down in a reentrant, so I spent like 4 cycles poking my head down into every reentrant before finally managing to convince myself that I needed to just get out of that area and go find the transmitter somewhere else. Sure enough, once I was out of there, I started getting much stronger signals and found it off-cycle over in another section of the map. Then it was just a long run into the beacon and finish. It would have been nice to have a clean 2m run, but it definitely wasn't as bad as it could have been.

Stretching 10:00 [3]

Normal stretching back at home minus some of the foam rolling. I managed to jam my leg, hard, into a stick producing a truly impressive bruise right over my IT band.
