Hiking with Sam, Erin, Skadi, and Presto in the John Muir Wilderness! After some debate about the best plan for the day, we headed out with Erin and the baby, while Kyle stayed home with the older kids. Erin suggested we head to Piute Pass, and with our policy of never ignoring suggestions from locals, we agreed. The hike was super nice with cool views of awesome cliffy mountains and really awesome views over the pass into Piute Valley. Oh, and in fun trivia, the hike started at the trailhead where the Mac High Sierra default background picture was taken.
My legs were a little tired from yesterday right off the bat, but Erin was carrying an entire person and doing fine, so there was no way I was complaining :-). I did have a surprising amount of trouble with the altitude (headache starting at like 10,500ft). We topped out at 11,460ft, which I think is higher than I've experienced in at least a year, but altitude doesn't usually bother me, aside from gasping for air, so I was surprised to being having so much trouble.
It was a bit chilly, so Presto got super excited about getting back to the car about 2 miles from the trailhead. He was charging ahead, and we forgot the leash, so it took quite a bit of convincing to keep him down to our speed for the last bit :-).
