Cross-Country Skiing (Skate) 5:00:00 [3] 16.0 mi (18:45 / mi)

Skate skiing at Tahoe XC (sort of) with Sam and Presto! Tahoe got some good snow last week, so we decided to head up to check it out. We figured the snow would still be too fluffy for backcountry skiing with Presto, so we decided to go to Tahoe XC to skate on the groomed trails. Dogs are usually allowed for the entire day on Sundays (which is why we went up today instead of yesterday), but we forgot to take into account MLK weekend, so when we got there at 10am, we discovered Presto wasn't allowed on the trails from 11-2.

We figured we'd do a bit of skiing on the groomed trails, then see how skating on the snow mobile trails would work and then head back to the groomed trails at 2pm. Unfortunately, by the time we were finished getting rentals sorted, it was 10:40 and we had 20 minutes to get to the other side of Tahoe XC and off the groomed trails. We booked it across and then started up Mount Watson. I am definitely out of skating shape and skiing up a mountain on not actually groomed trails at altitude is perhaps not the best way to go out for the first skate of the year, but I survived (more or less). We headed out to the Fiberboard Freeway and then partway to Watson Lake before reaching our 1pm turn around time. We had lunch and then zoomed back down the mountain to Tahoe XC to get in the last couple of hours on nice groomed trails. We had another snack when we got back to the lodge because I was kind of dying and then went out to do a loop of all the groomed dog trails before they closed. Presto had a blast chasing after Sam on the downhills and put up with my slowness on the uphills. Fun, fun!

Stretching 10:00 [3]

Normal stretching back home. Wow am I going to be sore...
