Hiking 3:00:00 [3] 6.0 mi (30:00 / mi)
shoes: Saucony Peregrine

Hiking with Sam and Presto in Shasta National Forest! After a pretty cold night, we decided to see if we could make it at least to the next high point over. Our original plan was to hike to Grizzly Peak, but that would be a 16 mile hike, which, with all the snow, seemed a bit out of the question at this point.

We didn't want to take the PCT, so we decided to do a mixture of cross-country bashing and seeing if we could find the elusive forest road. We spent about an hour swimming our way through the manzanita forest and were starting to consider the possibility of just bailing back to the campsite when we saw a bare patch of dirt about 100 meters away. Could that be the road??? After about 10 minutes of bashing, we stumbled out onto what appeared to be a massively overgrown trail. It only seemed invitingly trail-like because of what we'd been hiking through before then. The going was still kind of slow - the trail was either covered in manzanita or snow, but we could actually make decent progress now, so we continued on. We made it to a really nice high point with amazing views of Shasta, Lassan, the Trinities, and Grizzly Peak around lunch time, and decided there was no way we were making it to Grizzly Peak today, so we settled down for lunch before returning via a similarly insane path.

We made it back to the campsite around 2pm and decided to just spend the rest of the day relaxing and turning snow into drinking water while oggling Shasta and Lassan from our rocky perch. Excellent day!

Stretching 5:00 [3]

A slightly better attempt at stretching.
