Orienteering race 54:24 [5] *** 4.81 km (11:19 / km) +175m 9:34 / km
spiked:12/12c shoes: Vasque Orienteering
Technically this was a really great race. I basically didn't make any mistakes. Unfortunately, I sprained my ankle on the way to number 1, which slowed me down significantly, since I was then having trouble running at any reasonable pace. Then I broke my compass on the way to number 5, which also affected things since I didn't really want to run diagonally across ridges anymore.

Event: Western States + Intercollegiate Championships

Orienteering race 1:09:15 [5] *** 5.6 km (12:22 / km) +170m 10:44 / km
spiked:10/11c shoes: Vasque Orienteering
Intercollegiate Championships at Coronado National Forest in AZ. I was having a lot of trouble with the altitude and basically had to walk all of the hills, which induced me to go around a lot of the re-entrants instead of just running across them. I came in to number 7 a couple of re-entrants too far to the south, checked one or two north of where I came in and then ran south for a while. I lost a couple of minutes in there.
Orienteering race 30:03 [5] *** 2.9 km (10:22 / km) +90m 8:58 / km
spiked:11/14c shoes: Vasque Orienteering
Sprint at Intercollegiates. I was trying to run faster than I was navigating, which worked ok for a while and then came back to haunt me at controls 6, 7, and 9, where I made a couple of minutes of errors. The altitude was definitely still a problem.

Orienteering 40:00 [2] *** 4.4 km (9:05 / km)
spiked:13/14c shoes: Vasque Orienteering
Arthur Pack compass training. I basically went in a straight line to every control. I jogged kind of slowly for the entire course and didn't have any errors except for number 14, which I stood in front of for a while wondering why I didn't see a ribbon before actually seeing the ribbon. It was kind of like orienteering on another planet. One with carnivorous plants...
Orienteering (Trail-O) 1:00:00 [0] ***
Trail-O at Arthur Pack State Park. I got 9 out of 13 controls correct. It was really cool just walking around with all of the cacti.

Thursday Feb 21

Event: US Team training activity

Tuesday Feb 19

Elliptical 45:00 [3] 5.46 mi (8:14 / mi)
ahr:155 max:172
Strength 10:00 [3]
Went to the gym and ellipticalled for a while. Then did some core work and stretched for a very long time.

Monday Feb 18

Running 34:32 [3] 3.68 mi (9:23 / mi)
shoes: Brooks Running
Ran with Brendan from my apartment to the river and then did the Eliot to Weeks loop.

Sunday Feb 17

Running 54:27 [3] 5.87 mi (9:16 / mi)
shoes: Brooks Running
Ran from my apartment to the river and then tried to do the Weeks to Harvard bridge loop but apparently they have completely ripped up the sidewalk between Western Ave and the BU bridge on the Boston side of the river, so I crossed the river at Western Ave and again at the BU bridge.

Saturday Feb 16

Running 35:40 [3] 4.22 mi (8:26 / mi)
shoes: Brooks Running
Ran from my apartment to the river and then did the Eliot to River St. loop. I tried to use an old heart rate monitor that my dad gave me, but it was giving me fairly random readings that fluctuated wildly and didn't make a whole lot of sense. It was also kind of big and kept trying to slip down, so I had to hold it in place. I gave up on it fairly quickly and just took it off. I'm kind of concerned about my heart rate because when I do check it after running hard, it seems high (even though my resting heart rate is fairly low), so I might look into getting a more reliable heart rate monitor that hopefully isn't ridiculously expensive. Suggestions?

Thursday Feb 14

Running 50:13 [3] 5.64 mi (8:54 / mi)
shoes: Brooks Running
Went running with Brendan from my apartment to the river and then did the Eliot to River St. loop and 3x30s strides at the end. It was sort of icy, but pretty good other than that.

Wednesday Feb 13

Elliptical warm up/down 16:00 [3] 1.62 mi (9:52 / mi)
Strength 30:00 [3]
Lots and lots of abs. Also some legs and a minuscule amount of upper body.

Monday Feb 11

Elliptical 40:34 [3] 4.7 mi (8:38 / mi)
It's my birthday!!! It was also freezing cold, and I had a lot of class/lab to do, so I went to the gym and ellipticalled for a while.

Saturday Feb 9

Running 38:27 [3] 4.22 mi (9:07 / mi)
shoes: Brooks Running
Went running with Brendan from my apartment to the river and then did the Eliot to Western loop. My stomach has been doing funny things for the past couple of days, and I felt nauseous for a good part of the run. It started feeling a little better towards the end.

Thursday Feb 7

Orienteering 1:24:12 [3] * 8.0 mi (10:30 / mi)
spiked:11/12c shoes: Brooks Running
CSU training in Cambridge/Somerville. I ran to Brendan's and then did the Street-O minus number 2. It was a lot of fun and snowing, which was cool except that it made the sidewalks pretty slippery, and I did a bit of sliding around. It seems like I have escaped without injury, though, which is good.
C • Challenge? 2

Wednesday Feb 6

Elliptical 32:04 [3] 4.0 mi (8:01 / mi)
It was raining, and I'm still trying to give my knees some help, so I went to the gym.

Tuesday Feb 5

Elliptical 40:12 [3] 4.62 mi (8:41 / mi)
My knees are still hurting and elliptical usually makes them feel better, so I went to the gym today.

Saturday Feb 2

Running 38:06 [3] 4.4 mi (8:39 / mi)
shoes: Brooks Running
Ran from my apartment to the river and then did the Eliot to River St. loop. Did 4x30s strides at the end of the loop before running back.
C • Strides 2

Friday Feb 1

Swimming 45:00 [3] 1.03 mi (43:40 / mi)
Mostly flutter kicking, some breast stroke kick, some breast stroke, and some butterfly. I started thinking about how awesome either SCUBA-O or snorkle-O would be. Trip to a coral reef anyone?
