Monday Apr 28

Elliptical 45:00 [3] 5.24 mi (8:34 / mi)
It was raining and cold, so I went to the gym again.
Strength 8:00 [3]
Core stuff again but minus the planks and plus some other fun sit-up-y things.

Sunday Apr 27

Elliptical 45:00 [3] 5.2 mi (8:39 / mi)
Went to the New Balance store to get new shoes today, which took a ridiculously long time, and I didn't get back in time to go running during the day, so I went to the gym and ellipticaled instead.
Strength 8:00 [3]
Core stuff. I could tell I haven't done it in a while. I should get back into the habit.

Note to self: I tried planks tonight. They were fine ab-wise, but keeping myself in position was really hurting my shoulders (grinding, shoulders going in and out of sockets, extreme pain). Now (morning after) one of my shoulders hurts worse than they have since I was swimming. Do not do planks again!

Saturday Apr 26

Running 39:05 [3] 4.85 mi (8:02 / mi)
shoes: Brooks Running
Went running with Ian from my apartment to the Charles and then did the Eliot-River St. loop. We did 4x30s strides at the end.

Wednesday Apr 23

Orienteering race 28:18 [4] *** 3.1 km (9:08 / km) +90m 7:58 / km
spiked:9/13c shoes: Brooks Running
Second CSU park-o at Menotomy Rocks. It was pretty warm and I was really feeling the conditioning from yesterday. I had a couple of stupid little mistakes, but in general I just wasn't running very fast.
Orienteering 10:00 [3] *** 1 km (10:00 / km)
shoes: Brooks Running
Picked up controls. I actually felt a lot better while doing this than while orienteering maybe because I switched into my running clothes and was wearing a whole lot less...

Tuesday Apr 22

Running 43:21 [3] 4.77 mi (9:05 / mi)
shoes: Brooks Running
Went running with Brendan from the physics building to the Charles and then did the Eliot-Western Ave. loop. My arches were really hurting, which I'm assuming is residue from the meet last weekend.
Strength 12:00 [3]
Conditioning: butt kicks, knee lifts, power skips, lunges, and calf raises.

Sunday Apr 20

Orienteering race 1:03:05 [5] *** 5.3 km (11:54 / km) +280m 9:25 / km
spiked:20/23c shoes: Vasque Orienteering
Ran the green leg in the CSU 8 point relay (Ian Smith, Sara Mae Berman, me, Ken Walker Sr.) at the relay champs. I was definitely feeling the climb, but had a pretty clean race. It was cooler today than yesterday, so I was moving a bit faster, although still not particularly quickly. It was a lot of fun!

Great runs by Ken Walker and Sara Mae Berman and especially Ian Smith!

Also, congrats to the CSU 4 point relay (Brendan Shields, Alex Jospe, Peter Gagarin, and Ross Smith)!

Saturday Apr 19

Event: US Middle Distance and Relay Champs

Orienteering race 1:05:53 [5] *** 4.59 km (14:21 / km) +150m 12:20 / km
spiked:10/14c shoes: Vasque Orienteering
Middle Distance Champs at Lechworth State Park. It was really, really hot, and I felt pretty tired right from the beginning. The course was quite steep and this didn't really help either. I had trouble on number 8 (I actually found 9 first...luckily they were close together), made some small mistakes on a couple of other controls, and got really dehydrated.
Orienteering race 23:44 [4] *** 2.6 km (9:08 / km)
spiked:14/14c shoes: Vasque Orienteering
Sprint at the middle distance champs. I was accurate but really, really slow. I think I was still quite dehydrated from the morning course because my head started pounding pretty much as soon as I started the course, and I felt like I was going to throw-up pretty much the entire time.

Thursday Apr 17

Running 30:11 [3] 3.7 mi (8:09 / mi)
shoes: Brooks Running
Ran from my apartment and then did the Eliot to Weeks loop. I felt pretty good.

Tuesday Apr 15

Orienteering 40:55 [4] *** 3.38 km (12:06 / km) +65m 11:03 / km
spiked:7/11c shoes: Vasque Orienteering
Went to the CSU Park-O at Pine Hill, which was a lot of fun! It went pretty well in general, although I got a bit thrown off with all of the trails.

Monday Apr 14

Running 30:17 [3] 3.6 mi (8:25 / mi)
shoes: Brooks Running
Ran from my apartment to the river and then did the Eliot-Weeks loop. It felt a whole lot better than running in FL but less good than last week. It was a good break from spending the entire rest of the day reading about the aural system of owls, which is less than thrilling...

Sunday Apr 13

Event: 30th Annual Billygoat Run

Running 27:27 [3] 3.0 mi (9:08 / mi)
shoes: Brooks Running
Ran with my dad again in FL. We ran around the golf course again and got told off for being stupid (I guess with respect to the possibility of getting hit with stray golf balls). Then we ran around Coral Gables again to a cool looking cathedral and then back to the hotel and, more specifically, the pool :-). We saw these strange looking, I guess, ducks that looked like a cross between a duck and a vulture. They were quite odd.

Saturday Apr 12

Running 25:00 [3] 2.8 mi (8:55 / mi)
shoes: Brooks Running
Was down in Miami for my Great-Uncle's 95th birthday, which was pretty fun. It was really, really hot down in FL. The hotel was near a golf course, so my dad and I ran around the golf course and then around Coral Gables to a really cool synagogue and back to the hotel.

Thursday Apr 10

Running 43:55 [3] 5.46 mi (8:02 / mi)
shoes: Brooks Running
Ran from my apartment to the river and then did the Eliot to Western Ave. loop. While I was running, I saw a guy playing bagpipes, a Doberman pinchlet, and Joe from MWS. Apparently Mathworks has bike jerseys...who knew...

On the way back I ran to Divinity Ave and did 4x30s strides.

Wednesday Apr 9

Running 30:42 [3] 3.7 mi (8:17 / mi)
shoes: Brooks Running
Ran from my apartment to the Charles and then did the Weeks-Eliot loop.
Strength 5:00 [3]
Core stuff.

Tuesday Apr 8

Elliptical 30:57 [3] 3.0 mi (10:19 / mi)
Strength 30:00 [4]
Went to the gym with Brendan to do strength training. Did core and upper body stuff.

This doesn't really have anything to do with training, but my bunny died today. You're such a good bunny, Bunnicula. I'll miss you!

Sunday Apr 6

Orienteering 1:43:28 [3] *** 4.77 km (21:41 / km)
spiked:14/26c shoes: Vasque Orienteering
Went out to the Blue Hills to do a training course that Jeff set. Ross advertised sunny weather, but it was actually cold and wet. The course was supposed to be a compass exercise. My legs were tired from yesterday, and I was pretty slow. I was also having trouble picking out a single boulder on a hillside full of boulders, which slowed me down significantly.

Saturday Apr 5

Running 1:33:00 [3] 10.2 mi (9:07 / mi)
shoes: Brooks Running
Went running with Ian. We took the T to Davis Square and then ran to Middlesex Fells, ran around in Middlesex Fells, and then ran back to Davis Square. My knees were hurting by the end, but in general I felt pretty good.

Friday Apr 4

Elliptical 50:00 [3] 5.65 mi (8:51 / mi)
Its raining and cold, so I went to the gym to elliptical instead of running outside.

Thursday Apr 3

Running intervals 34:47 [3] 6 km (5:48 / km)
shoes: Brooks Running
CSU training with Brendan and Ross at the MIT track. Did 1200m warm-up and then 400, 600, 800, 600, 400, with 400 in between each one and 400 cool-down at the end.
Strength 5:00 [3]
Fun core stuff.

Tuesday Apr 1

Running 40:43 [3] 4.35 mi (9:21 / mi)
shoes: Brooks Running
Went running with Brendan tonight. The weather was really, really nice. We ran from the physics building down to the Charles, and then I did the Eliot to Western loop. I saw a rabbit on the Boston side of the Charles, which surprised me. Where does it live?
