Tuesday Sep 30

Running 20:00 [3] 2.3 mi (8:41 / mi)
shoes: Brooks Running
Ran from my apartment to the river and then to the grocery store. This run was kind of cursed. It started raining right after I left. I didn't bring enough Presto bags. I was really crunched for time. And my legs were still tired from last weekend.

Wednesday Sep 24

Running 32:03 [3] 3.7 mi (8:39 / mi)
shoes: Brooks Running
Couldn't do the CSU training because of rehearsal, so I went running with Presto from my apartment to the river and then did the Weeks-Eliot loop. I felt kind of tired, but that's probably because I actually haven't had enough sleep.

Sunday Sep 21

Orienteering 1:31:54 [3] *** 4.2 km (21:53 / km)
spiked:8/14c shoes: New Balance Orienteering
CSU meet at Rocky Woods. My hip was really hurting, and I was supposed to be helping out with the meet, so I decided to run brown, which was apparently a good decision. Rocky Woods is very rocky and also very thick. Mostly the thickness was these shrub things that came up to close to my waist. This would have been annoying, but not such a big problem if I hadn't had Presto with me on a leash. His leash kept getting caught on the branches and we had to stop to get him untangled. Eventually Presto was just like, No I will not go back into the forest! I will stay on the trail. And then I spent a while coaxing him into the forest as he stood stubbornly on the trail. That being said, the courses were extremely well designed (Go Brendan!), and I really enjoyed it. (Note: The number of spiked controls may or may not be correct as I seem to have lost my map.)

Friday Sep 19

Running 32:04 [3] 3.7 mi (8:39 / mi)
shoes: Brooks Running
Went running from my apartment to the river and then did the Weeks-Eliot loop. Presto was much better on this run, probably because he had just spent a while playing with another dog. Apparently the Harvard night game is tonight because there were a gazillion people walking en mass to Harvard Stadium with Harvard sweatshirts on the whole time I was running. It was kind of funny looking. I didn't feel that great at the beginning of the run (tired and tight), but things got better as I ran.

Thursday Sep 18

Elliptical 45:00 [3] 5.38 mi (8:22 / mi)
CSU training was at the Tufts track, which unfortunately doesn't allow dogs and Presto really needed exercise. I was going to take him running, but one of his best dog friends was around Biolabs courtyard, so they played for 2 hours at which point Presto was finally tired (more or less), and it was completely dark and kind of cold. I didn't really want to go running outside at that point and Presto fell asleep immediately when we got home, so I decided to go to the gym, ironically leaving Presto after all. I justify this by the fact that I only left him for an hour instead of at least 2 and that he wouldn't have been able to play with his friend if I had gone to Tufts. My legs were pretty tired and my thigh still kind of hurts, so elliptical might have been a better choice anyway.

Tuesday Sep 16

Running 33:28 [3] 3.7 mi (9:02 / mi)
shoes: Brooks Running
Ran from my apartment to the river and then did the Weeks-Eliot loop. I think running with Presto kind of slows me down a bit because I find myself sort of slowing to his easy trot (which to be fair isn't all that much slower then I normally run), and then I have to remind myself to run faster. This is especially a problem when we have to run single file, and he is directly in front of me. My thigh is still hurting a bit, especially when my foot hit the ground, but hopefully that will stop as the bruise heals.
Strength 3:00 [3]
I realized I haven't been doing my exercises from PT, so I did clams after running.

Sunday Sep 14

Event: Great Brook Farm

Orienteering 2:10:43 [3] *** 7.7 km (16:59 / km)
spiked:14/17c shoes: New Balance Orienteering
Red course at the NEOC Great Brook Farm meet. My leg was quite sore from my collision yesterday. When I woke up it was really tight, and I could barely walk because my sciatica was acting up. I stretched it out, which helped a bit, although it was definitely still painful. Unfortunately, the course was basically a long orange. There were two legs in particular that were just really long runs on trails, but the course in general was mostly following linear features. This meant that the decreased speed I had from my sore leg really hurt my time. I had to stop and stretch a couple of times, which probably cost me about 5 minutes of sitting still time.

I made a couple of stupid errors. Going to 4, I stopped thinking about the course and did a 180, which I caught after about a minute. I ran right by 9 without seeing it, and then got really confused because I thought I should have found it and lost a couple of minutes being confused. Leaving 10, I somehow crossed and trail and a rock wall without seeing either of them (I was either really out of it by this point or the map may have been a little strange there) and lost a couple of minutes going a suboptimal route/trying to figure out where I was.

Presto also came. He was incredulous at the idea that we were going running in the pouring rain, but got into it once we really started moving. We had a couple of arguments about which side of the trees we were going to run on and also about whether moving cars are good things to go say "hi" to. Between the tree issues and him stopping to pee/look at/try to chase things, I probably lost 10 more minutes to Presto-related stopping.

Saturday Sep 13

Running 15:00 [3]
shoes: Brooks Running
Playing ultimate frisbee (with a HUGE frisbee) and wiffle ball at the Ashford Fellowship retreat. The time is approximate, and I have no clue how far I ran. It was basically all sprinting, though. Unfortunately, I also managed to injure myself by running into someone's mouth. We were playing wiffle ball, and this girl thought that in order to guard the base you actually were supposed to physically guard it by standing between the person running and the base. She was crouched down and by the time I realized that she was not in fact going to move out of the way, it was too late for me to slow down. I ran straight into her and her teeth hit my leg really hard. It is quite painful.

Thursday Sep 11

Orienteering 56:33 [3] *** 3 km (18:51 / km)
spiked:5/10c shoes: New Balance Orienteering
CSU training: Night-O at Hammond Pond. It was really, really dark in the forest since there weren't any clouds for the street lights to reflect off of. I also had to juggle a hand-held flashlight, Presto's leash, and my map and compass, which made things interesting. I was going kind of slow because I didn't want to get lost or hurt myself. I did not do either of these things, so I guess the speed was successful. I'm not really a fan of night-os.

Wednesday Sep 10

Running 37:15 [3] 4.13 mi (9:00 / mi)
shoes: Brooks Running
Ran with Presto from my apartment to Harvard Yard to the river and then did the Western-Eliot loop. It was incredibly nice out and running felt really good until I started having serious stomach problems towards the end. I think it was the food from the MCB retreat. A lot of people were having stomach problems.

Tuesday Sep 2

Running 28:33 [3] 3.5 mi (8:09 / mi)
shoes: Brooks Running
Ran with Presto from my apartment to Harvard Yard, so he could run off-leash and then to the river to do the Weeks-Eliot loop. It was kind of hot already at 8am, so I'm glad I didn't wait until later in the day.
