Friday May 30

Running 29:21 [3] 3.63 mi (8:04 / mi)
shoes: Brooks Running
Went running with my dad on the greenway and then around Pullen Park and back. It was really, really hot!
Strength 10:00 [3]
Knee lifts, butt kicks, power skips, lunges, and calf raises.

Tuesday May 27

Orienteering 40:00 [3] 4 km (10:00 / km)
shoes: New Balance Orienteering
Setting and picking up controls for the Fresh Pond park-o. The forecast was for severe thunderstorms, but it wasn't actually raining when I left to go set controls, so I figured I would give it a try and see if anyone showed up. It started drizzling as I started setting controls and rapidly changed to a torrential downpour. I could only see about 20ft. in front of me, and I was completely soaked. It was pretty warm, though, so it was actually a lot of fun. A golfer who was escaping the rain thought that I was carrying around diving signs, which I guess would have been appropriate for the weather. Goggles might have been helpful :-).

People did actually end up showing up, which was good, and it didn't actually rain when the park-o was in progress. There was a man-made feature that I had put a control on, which was in the wrong place on the map. I was in a rush setting controls and just found the man-made object and put a control on it. I noticed that something seemed weird with the control placement but didn't really think about it. Turns out it was on the wrong side of the railroad tracks. Sorry!

Monday May 26

Biking 2:00:00 [3] 25.0 mi (4:48 / mi)
Rode with my dad around the greenways of Raleigh. We found some interesting new routes. One new greenway has a recycling bin about every 50m. It would be nice if Boston was as endowed. I got a flat tire partway through, which slowed things down a bit, but the ride was a lot of fun. Distance is approximate. I have no clue where we actually went.
Strength 3:00 [3]
Apparently Jiffy does not approve of core exercises. I had done about half or maybe a little less of my normal core workout, which Jiffy had been watching confusedly, before he just laid down next to me with his head on my arm. Since I am home to spend time with him anyway and Jiffy seemed keen on hanging out and less keen on me doing abs stuff, I figured I would save the core stuff for when I'm back in Cambridge.

Saturday May 24

Event: US Team Trials

Monday May 19

Elliptical 45:00 [3] 5.25 mi (8:34 / mi)
Didn't get out of lab until 8pm today, so I went to the gym. Stupid slow growing cells...
Strength 6:00 [3]
Core stuff.

Saturday May 17

Elliptical 37:52 [3] 4.61 mi (8:12 / mi)
Went whale watching today :-), and I didn't have time to go running while it was still light out, so I went to the gym and ellipticalled.
Strength 8 [3]
Lots of core stuff.

Tuesday May 13

Running 24:58 [3] 2.6 mi (9:36 / mi)
shoes: Brooks Running
Went running with my dad along the greenway by my house.

Saturday May 10

Strength 10:00 [2]
Messed around on a trapeze with my family. Jiffy watched from the sidelines as paws make life difficult on a trapeze.

Thursday May 8

Running 37:48 [3] 4.28 mi (8:49 / mi)
shoes: Brooks Running
Went running with Brendan from my apartment to the river and then did the Eliot-Western loop. I was pretty dehydrated and still quite sleep deprived, so I kind of felt like I was dragging large blocks of lead around attached to my ankles. I also twisted my ankle yesterday dealing with the trash (doubly annoying, since I was both dealing with trash and hurt myself...), and it was bothering me a bit.
Strength 5:00 [3]
Core stuff.

Tuesday May 6

Orienteering race 37:35 [4] *** 3.16 km (11:54 / km)
spiked:14/17c shoes: New Balance Orienteering
Park-O at Pine Banks. It went pretty well, although I should probably sleep more. I felt kind of groggy. Oh well. Classes are over soon!

Saturday May 3

Event: West Point A-Meet

Running 39:52 [3] 4.62 mi (8:38 / mi)
shoes: New Balance Orienteering
Went running from my apartment to the river and then did the Eliot-Western Ave. loop. I tried out my new orienteering shoes, which seem to work fairly well although one of my feet started falling asleep by the end of the run, so I may need to adjust the laces.
Strength 17:00 [3]
Conditioning: knee lifts, butt kicks, power skips, lunges, and toe raises. I also did my normal core stuff.
