| Ran with Presto from my apartment to the river and then did the Weeks-Eliot loop. Note: Charles River Esplanade, you do not have enough trashcans! I had not noticed this lack until I went to the esplanade with a dog... It was also extremely humid. I started the run feeling tired, sticky, and slow and ended the run feeling tired, sticky, sweaty, and slow. I also hadn't eaten a whole lot today and my stomach was informing me of the lack of caloric intake. |

| CSU training at Harvard. Brendan designed a course at Harvard that was more or less a running tour of Harvard statues. It was a lot of fun! Presto thought it was especially great. |

| Ran with my dad, Presto, and Spirit (on his inaugural run) from my apartment to the river and then did the Weeks-Western loop. We didn't want to tire Spirit out too much and both Spirit and Presto were getting sore paws, so we didn't run very far or very fast. |

| Hopewell Rocks Sprint. I don't have my map in front of me right now, so specifics will be hard to give, but this sprint was a lot of fun. It was basically just out and back on the shore of the Bay of Fundy. The rock formations were awesome and seeing controls out there was pretty funny. The scale of the map confused me somewhat. My big mistake was that there was a cable that indicated out of bounds, but controls were placed just behind the cable. I thought that these controls were marking the out of bounds, since they were actually out of bounds, so I didn't even look at them. Turns out my first control was one of these. I made it to my 3rd control before realizing how far off I was. I lost about 2.5 minutes here. Other than that, things went ok, but I wasn't very clean. |

| CSU training at MIT. I designed a strange workout at MIT. It started with an ascent of the Green Building and then was a relatively easy orienteering course on a new base map of MIT that Brendan and I made. At about half of the controls, there were conditioning exercises to do (abs and legs) before continuing. I wasn't sure how long it was going to take everyone, so I designed it to be done twice. The only person that made it through more than once was Clem, who did about 1.5 times through. It was a lot of fun, although I got a cramp in my right calf coming down the Green Building at the beginning, which hurt pretty badly the entire night. |

| Ran from my apartment to the river and then did the Eliot-Weeks loop. I was feeling pretty tired for most of it, and even though it wasn't really that hot today I felt like I was having trouble with the heat. I'm guessing that's from getting used to it being cold in Scandinavia. It did feel a bit better than last time, though, so that's something anyway. |

| CSU training at Franklin Park. The course went through a lot of green, and my Estonia training was screaming at me to go on trails whenever possible, which at Franklin Park is quite a lot. In an attempt to get out of this habit, I made some sub-optimal route choices, but I guess it's better to do this in training than at an actual meet. Control 2 was not in quite the correct spot, and I wasted 8-9 minutes coming back at the control from many different attackpoints. After coming back to the same cliff multiple times, I decided to move on. Other than that, the course was pretty good. |

| Went running from my apartment to the river and then did the Eliot-Weeks loop. I was feeling slow and kind of tired. I'm not really over my jet lag yet. It's still hard to make myself sleep in the morning, but it works out pretty well because it means I can go running before work. |

 | Elliptical 45:00 [3] 5.35 mi (8:25 / mi) | |
| |
| I got back from Europe last night and valiantly tried to stay awake late enough to get a decent night's sleep by watching the Olympics. It sort of worked, but I still ended up waking up at 5:45 this morning. I was planning on going for a run, but it was raining and my knee was kind of hurting from spending 9 hours in a plane yesterday, so I decided to go to the gym to elliptical instead. |
Monday Aug 11 |
 | Biking 1:00:00 [3] 11.14 mi (5:23 / mi) | |
| |
| Road Sanna's bikes from her place to a little past Sibelius's house and back. It was raining pretty much the whole time and the bikes were, as Sanna put it, not the best, but I had a good time. It was cool to bike in Finland, although we never actually managed to find Sibelius's house, just the turn off for it.
This is sadly my last day in Europe. I had a great time! |

| WUOC Relay. I was the final leg on the unofficial former British colonies women's relay: Rachel Effeney (Australia), Anna Shafer-Skelton, Ineka Booth (Australia), and me. I generally felt pretty good, although I had a couple of errors. One 180 in this huge patch of extremely thick vegetation. All I could see was the plant directly in front of me, which was disconcerting, and I guess I was more interested in finding the easiest way through rather than the correct direction. |

| WUOC middle distance. I don't have my map with me right now to enumerate all of the problems that I had, but suffice it to say that this race went generally miserably. I basically would run to the control circle and then not be able to find the control. Several times I had to relocate off of a major feature 3 or 4 times before finding the control. I had one really good leg (6-7) and a couple of decent legs and other than that things were basically miserable.
I also got stuck in a swamp. There was a stream that didn't have any water in it and was covered in moss. It looked too wide to clear, so I just tried to run through it. I sunk in up to my thighs and tried to pull myself out with trees, but the trees weren't very well attached to the ground. I eventually got myself out, but I was kind of scared for a while there. |
