Orienteering 1:16:07 [3] *** 6.1 km (12:29 / km)
spiked:14/22c shoes: Cascadia Orienteering

February semi-permanent course at Hammond Pond with Presto. It was quite cold today, so after I took off my warm clothes, I was really ready to get moving. Unfortunately this led to a fast and truly sloppy start (messing up controls 1-4). Luckily Hammond Pond is a fairly forgiving place, especially when it's light out :-). I was then ok until 10, where I veered off my baring a bit but didn't lose too much time. I also botched 11, mistaking one swamp for another and adding quite a bit of distance. The rest of the course was pretty clean. Brendan showed up while I was changing into warm, dry clothes, so Presto and I had company for the T ride back to Cambridge.

Stretching 10:00 [3]

Nerve glides and back extensions.

Thursday Feb 4

Running 32:43 [3] 3.7 mi (8:51 / mi)
shoes: Brooks Running 3

Running with Presto from my apartment to the river and then did the Eliot-Weeks loop. I didn't get out of lab until 8pm because I had to go to the RMV today to get a new driver's license (which is $100!!!!!), so I was pretty hungry and tired during the run. We saw a couple of rabbits in a new location, which Presto got really excited about.

Strength 15:00 [3]

Abs stuff with extra reps.

Stretching 10:00 [3]

Nerve glides and back extensions.

Tuesday Feb 2

Running 10:00 [3] 1.4 mi (7:09 / mi)
shoes: Cascadia Orienteering

Frantically running to the start of CSU training.

Orienteering 39:03 [3] *** 3.8 km (10:17 / km)
spiked:13/19c shoes: Cascadia Orienteering

CSU training at Peter's Hill. I was fantastically late to this because of a combination of problems with Harvard, Kinkos, etc., which was especially problematic as I had the maps...oops! Sorry guys!!! Anyway, I finally showed up with the maps, and we set off. Katya and Giovanni had a zipcar that needed to be back in Cambridge by 9pm, so we decided to all be back by 8:15, which gave us about 40 minutes to run. The course was basically 5 trips up to the top of Peter's Hill with navigation on the way back down. I only made it up 4 times before it was time to go, but this was still a decent workout hill-wise. It was a bit snowy and icy out there too, which combined with the dark made for a couple of scary moments, although I did manage to stay on my feet the entire time, which was nice, (it did require some slowing down at times). The loop across the road was especially dark and made me remember the conversation I overheard on the T on the way over between a couple of guys talking about how much longer they had left on parole, which as they got off on the same stop that I did made things that much creepier. (Although to be fair, they were probably smart enough not to be running in the freezing cold dark through the Arboretum.) It was fun to be out though, so I'm glad I did eventually make it! Sorry again about the late start!

Sunday Jan 31

Running 29:14 [3] 3.6 mi (8:07 / mi)
shoes: Brooks Running 3

Running with Presto from my apartment to the river and then did the JFK-River St. loop crossing every bridge. This was the first time since I've been sick that running has felt good, although I'm definitely not recovered yet what with the wheezing, coughing, sneezing, voice loosing, etc. Why does Israel spend so much money and energy on the IDF when they have germs like these? I'd think twice about invading Israel if these are the kinds of illnesses they have to offer. :-)

Strength 10:00 [3]

Normal abs stuff.

Stretching 10:00 [3]

Nerve glides and back extensions.
