Orienteering 1:26:50 [3] *** 6.3 km (13:47 / km)
15c shoes: Cascadia Orienteering

Red at Nobscot with Presto! A really nice day to be out in the woods. Historically this meet has been plagued by mosquitoes, but they seem to be holding off for now (or maybe they're all hanging out at Mt. Tom...). I started out stupidly by running right by number 1 just feeling happy to be outside and didn't realize it until I was halfway to number 2. Oops! Then things were just chugging along pretty well for most of the rest of the course. I did have a route choice readjustment on 13 when an extremely large group of boy scouts was in my way but was pretty happy in general. I had a couple of complaints from my ankle, but it is actually starting to feel more and more like a normal ankle that just gets tired more quickly than it used to. I somehow managed to mess up the finish and started crashing through some green before realizing that just going back through the start would be a better choice at that point. A great day to be out!

Also, Presto met another whippet! Thanks to Ian for the photo!

Biking 20:00 [3] 5.9 mi (3:23 / mi)

Biking to my concert and back. It turns out that the area around Quincy Market and Faneuil Hall has no bike racks (which surprised me), so I had to improvise. My bike was still there when the concert was over, so I guess all was well :-).

Running 40:47 [3] 5.4 mi (7:33 / mi)
shoes: Brooks Running 5

A second run with Presto and my mountain marathon gear. I'm still feeling pretty good about carrying the stuff, although I guess I'll be doing it for a lot longer in July. We went over to Charlestown with only a few wrong turns and then to Laura and Ben's to pick up our half of our farm share. Yum vegetables!

Running 29:34 [3] 3.6 mi (8:13 / mi)
shoes: Brooks Running 5

I knew I wasn't going to be able to make it to the Park-O tonight, so I decided to go on a morning run with Presto. This was also my first run with almost all my required gear for the mountain marathon, which I need to get used to carrying while running. The only things I didn't have were a sleeping bag because I'll be borrowing a really small, lightweight one from someone in England, and my "torch" because I didn't want to light any of my things on fire ;-). To simulate the extra weight, I threw my sleeping bag liner in there and also a random book. I felt fine with the backpack on (aside from a sweaty back), and I don't even think it really slowed me down that much. Also, last night's exciting weather definitely made for an absolutely gorgeous morning!

Hiking 45:00 [3] 2.0 mi (22:30 / mi) +350m 14:34 / mi
shoes: Cascadia Orienteering

We didn't have much time before starting the drive back, but we decided to try to get to as many peaks as possible in the hour we had! We only made it to two before needing to bail to a carriage road, but we got some awesome views again! The trail up the mountain was basically bare rock the entire way and between the steepness and the slippery algae, we only did a little bit of running on the way up. We did get to run most of the distance between the peaks, which was awesomely above tree-line. The bugs were out in full-force this morning. Ack! I guess summer's almost here!

Running 10:32 [3] 1.6 mi (6:35 / mi)
shoes: Cascadia Orienteering

Then we bailed to a carriage road and ran down, down, down. Woohoo!
