Orienteering 29:20 [3] *** 2.1 km (13:58 / km) +95m 11:23 / km
9c shoes: Mizuno Ascend

Brown Middle 1 at Earl's Trails with Presto! Woohoo! No pain! I wanted to take it nice and easy and keep good track of my shin at all times. My calf started feeling tired towards the end, but other than that, it was totally fine! Yay! I had a couple of bobbles either in vague areas or when my idea of what the terrain was going to look like didn't really match reality, but overall, I was pretty pleased with this. Presto also had a great time, so it was a successful day all around! :-)

Biking 45:00 [3] 5.0 mi (9:00 / mi)
shoes: Specialized Hardrock

Instead of doing the second middle, I decided to be safe and went out for a nice mountain bike ride on the truly awesome trails after lunch! I spent the first 30 minutes getting myself thoroughly lost with my map in my pocket and the next 30 minutes trying to figure out where I was and how to get back. (I figure only about 45 minutes of this was actual riding as opposed to staring at my map and it's copious trail junctions in confusion...) The most amusing part of this ride was when I was just getting back to the start. I was coming up a trail that went right through the start call up from the morning courses, so I cut through the woods to get onto another trail that went to the start/finish area only to discover that I managed to make it so I rode through the afternoon start area. :-) Oops!

Stretching 10:00 [3]

Stretching 4:00 [3]

Stretching with SGB and Presto (who kept trying to convince us to give him a second evening dinner). My shin and calf feel a bit weird today, but don't really hurt per se, so I'm cautiously optimistic :-). My stomach still feels icky, though. Hopefully I'll be feeling good soon!

Hiking 1:30:00 [3] 6.0 mi (15:00 / mi) +600m 11:27 / mi
shoes: Mizuno Ascend

We actually got a couple hours off this afternoon, so I searched out a miserable excuse for a map and herded 10 of the 16 people at the retreat off to Grafton Notch State Park for a hike! We got there with about 2 hours to hike and split into a hiking group and strolling group. Nichole, Wolfram, and I made an effort to get to the summit of the west peak of Baldface Mountain, but didn't quite make it to the top before we ran out of time and had to turn around. It was still an awesome hike full of lots and lots of toads!

Running 8:00 [3] 1.0 mi (8:00 / mi)
shoes: Mizuno Ascend

We were getting worryingly close to our meeting-at-the-trail-head time, so we decided to run the last bit in. I was a bit worried, but my shin didn't hurt!!!! WOOHOO!!! If everything feels good for the next couple of days, maybe I will be able to run one of the middles at the Western Mass meet this weekend :-). I think I'll try to switch down to Brown, though. It seems more like the correct length for my current level of recoveredness.

Stretching 3:00 [3]

Lots of calf stretching, but not much else. I wonder if I got too much icky pool water in my mouth. The chlorine was more or less non-existent, and my stomach doesn't feel so good today.

Elliptical 20:00 [3] 2.5 mi (8:00 / mi)

After sitting in talks from 9am-7pm at our lab retreat I was going stir crazy. There was a pool outside the house, but it was far to cold to get in without being warm first, so I checked out the pseudo-elliptical machine for a while first. It was more or less fine, but felt a bit weird and made funny noises...

Swimming 10:00 [3] 0.33 mi (30:02 / mi)

COLDEST POOL EVER!!!! I think it was also the dirtiest pool I've ever been in. At one point, I came into the wall for a turn and came face to face with 3 dead spiders. Eek! Shortly after this, my muscles seized up due to cold, and I gave up.

Strength 15:00 [3]

Normal abs plus a bunch of ankle/shin strengthening stuff. It was good to be not sitting for a while!

Stretching 3:00 [3]

A reduced version of my normal stretching.
