Running 29:51 [3] 3.1 mi (9:38 / mi)
shoes: Brooks Running 14

Running with Sam and Presto after lab! It actually feels like fall right now, which makes me happy :-). Running also managed to get rid of my headache, so it was a complete win! The cooler temperatures make Presto all spritely and happy as well.

Strength 14:00 [3]

Normal abs + stretchy-band glute exercises.

Stretching 10:00 [3]

Normal stretching. Tighter than usual, but the stretching felt great.

Hiking 3:00:00 [3] 10.0 mi (18:00 / mi) +800m 14:25 / mi
shoes: Brooks ASR

Hiking up to Dick's Pass with Sam, Ken, and Presto! Ken's in town for work and even though the forecast wasn't perfect (GASP!!!), we decided to head out to attempt Dick's Peak. The weather was cool and even had a bit of sun peaking through at times on our way up to Gilmore Lake, where we stopped for lunch. Presto and I got quite cold there, so we pretty quickly headed off towards Dick's Pass.

On the way up it started drizzling a bit, and after a moment or two it became clear that the "drizzle" was actually white and kind of floating...SNOW!!!! By the time we made it to the pass, the snow was coming down at a pretty decent rate with a pretty strong wind and was actually starting to accumulate, so after some conferencing and taking into account the lack of trail to the summit and our lack of spiky shoe accouterments, we decided to just head back down the mountain via Susie Lake. Presto was thrilled with the snow, and kept trying to play and roll in it, which was super cute, but he got significantly less excited when we got low enough that the snow had turned to rain, so we basically just stopped at Susie Lake long enough to take pictures. Then we skedaddled the rest of the way down the mountain and had the disturbingly unusual experience of driving home in a warm car with the windshield wipers on. Awesome day!

Orienteering 1:14:26 [3] *** 6.5 mi (11:27 / mi)
30c shoes: Brooks Running 14

Haunted Glen Halloween-O 10km as team Kuiper Belt Objects with Sam and Presto (or rather, Pluto and New Horizons)! Sam and I were both really excited to get some Halloween fun in, so we scurried out of work a bit early to begin our extended trek down to San Jose for Rex's Halloween event. It took us the full 2 hours that we'd allotted to get there, so we arrived just in time to win the Homemade Costume division of the costume contest! (The picture doesn't want to display, but Sam was dressed as the Greek/Roman god Pluto, I was dressed as the Greek/Roman god Charon, and Presto was dressed as the NASA space probe New Horizons :-).)

At Rex's things, everyone typically plans their routes beforehand, but we were late enough that we didn't even look at the maps until after the start. Then the people working at the running store the event was based in wanted pictures of us (and especially of Presto), so we finally set off a few minutes after the actual start.

It was a trivia-O with houses to go to and then questions about what sorts of Halloween decorations were up at each house. We didn't quite take the houses in the optimal order, but we had a blast ogling the completely amazing decorations. At one point we passed a bunch of teenagers who were like, "Dude...that dog is from NASA...", which was completely hilarious :-).

My glutes were definitely sore from yesterday, but aside from a few moments at the end where I realized I'd stopped using my glutes to run, my knee felt great! Super fun race!!!

Strength 20:00 [3]

Plyometrics after finishing up our costumes for tomorrow's Halloween-O! I decided planning to run 2 days in a row probably wasn't the smartest plan, so I just jumped around a bit.

Stretching 10:00 [3]

Normal stretching.
