Running 28:43 [3] 3.1 mi (9:16 / mi)
shoes: Brooks Running 14

Quick run up the hill and back with Presto before lab! It seems like a waste to get up early in the morning for a run and still have to go out in the dark, but I guess I should be happy that dawn had decided to arrive by the end of the run :-). Presto seems nearly recovered from the weekend, and it was actually cold and stuff on this run. There were people outside scraping *frozen water* off of their windshields! Whoa!

Running 35:00 [3] 3.5 mi (10:00 / mi)
shoes: Brooks Running 14

Running with Presto on the fire trail! I am definitely sore from yesterday, but it seemed like a waste to spend an entire weekend day not doing anything, so Presto and I headed out to the fire trail. It had actually rained a lot overnight, so there was much mud and my brief attempt to go up a hill was cut short when I started sliding backward. Aside from one fairly significant bruise on my knee from where I landed on my ski one time, the soreness seems quite manageable, and Presto was clearly quite tired today. Success!

Stretching while my pear cobbler baked. Yum!

Cross-Country Skiing (Skate) 3:00:00 [3] 30.0 km (6:00 / km)

Wee! Skate skiing with Sam and Presto at Royal Gorge! Tahoe got about 2 feet of snow on Thursday/Friday, so we decided we'd better take advantage of the snow while it lasted and headed on out. Presto was SOOOOO excited about the snow and seemed pretty surprised at how slow I was, but as soon as we got some downhills in there he was absolutely thrilled :-). I spent the first and last half hour with no poles just trying to switch my legs over from roller skiing to regular skiing, and also attempted to increase my glide time on one leg, which resulted in much crashing.

We skied from the main lodge over to the dog area and skied around the dog area a couple of times before Sam and I split up so that Sam could actually ski at normal pace and I could try getting some actual hills in. Presto stayed with Sam while I skied over to the downhill area and back, and I guess the combination of running 20 miles on snow with actually speeding up to Presto-running speed with Sam, meant that I got a very tired Presto for the last half hour or so.

I know there will be WAY more climb, but I think if I can get at least a few more times on snow before the end of January, this seems like an actual possibility!

Stretching back at home. Awesome day!

Running 31:05 [3] 3.1 mi (10:02 / mi)
shoes: Brooks Running 14

Running with Sam and Presto up the hill! We had a department holiday party this evening, so I was kind of full of party food, which made this run reasonably uncomfortable from a stomach perspective. However, it was really good to get out. It was kind of cold and raining, which means SNOW IN THE MOUNTAINS!!!!!!!!!!

Presto was clearly super excited about the prospect of a run while we were changing into running clothes, but as soon as we got outside, he was like, "um, actually what if I just pee under this tree here and head back in?" Once we got going, though, he perked up and had his radar ears on for most of the run :-).
