Swimming 40:00 [3] 1.8 km (22:13 / km)

Woohoo!!!! My paper was accepted!!!! I feel all light and free of responsibility!

This feeling of lightness and lack of responsibility was intensified by the fact that it feels very like the summers of my youth outside this weekend. It is hot enough that even the utter and complete lack of humidity is not an obstacle to its extreme hotness. It is extremely hot even by the standards of a place with actual weather.

Sam and I (and apparently the entire population of Berkeley) decided that this heat could only be properly experienced in a pool, so we headed up to Strawberry Canyon Pool. It was...crowded. The lap lanes had about 6 people to a lane and many of those people were extremely slow. The rest of the pool had a person density that was intense. The water was murky and there was hair and who knows what else floating around in it, but it was glorious.

I swam a bit over a mile with lots of person dodging. Most of this was flutter kick because apparently breast stroke makes my toes tingle and my arms are too wimpy to swim freestyle for more than a couple hundred yards at a time. (Trying to swim backstroke and butterfly was kind of disaster in and among this many people.) Flutter kick seemed fine, and my foot actually felt pretty fantastic afterwards, so that was nice. All-in-all, a good way to beat the heat!

Biking 2:00 [3] 4.0 mi (30 / mi)

I wouldn't normally bother to log this amount of biking, but did I mention it was hot out? It was so hot that my teeth (exposed to the air) were actually warmer than my tongue. Weird. We remedied this with smoothies. Yum! Smoothies!

Stretching 10:00 [3]

Stretching back at home.

Running 29:01 [3] 2.9 mi (10:00 / mi)
shoes: Brooks Running 17

Running with Sam and Presto after lab! Things in lab were a bit stressful and grump-inducing today, so I really needed this run. My knee and foot felt fine for the first part of the run. Unfortunately after about 25 minutes my foot started tingling and then a burning feeling started up in my toes, so I decided I should probably stop running.

I'm assuming something's pinching a nerve? And that this is probably a bad thing? I'm going to try taking anti-inflammatories for a few days and see if that clears things up, and if not, I guess I'll go to some sort of medical professional.

In good news, my knee felt completely fine, so hopefully that was just a passing thing (maybe due to smashing it into a cabinet on Saturday?), and mentally I felt much calmer after the run.

Strength 14:00 [3]

Normal abs + stretchy band glutes.

Stretching 10:00 [3]

Normal stretching.

Orienteering 46:32 [3] *** 4.6 km (10:07 / km)
36c shoes: Brooks Running 17

Summer series race at Golden Gate Park with Presto! Super fun (and tricky) race! I was feeling much spritelier than yesterday, which wasn't hard - still slow, but I was enjoying it much more.

The course was kind of a series of butterfly loops. I spiked the first control and then proceeded to go straight to number 3. This in and of itself would have been annoying but not that big of a deal because 2 and 3 were close to each other. Except 2 was the center of the first set of butterfly loops, so when I came back to the center (now number 6), I went to 3 before 2 again while I was thinking I was being all smart and reading ahead since I already knew were 2 was. Sigh. I had a few other bobbles and some suboptimal route choices, but the rest of the course was significantly better than the first 6 controls :-).

My left foot started aching and feeling super tingly towards the end. I am somewhat confused about what is wrong with it.

Otherwise, this course was super fun and it was good to see everyone. And, most importantly, Presto finished out his winning streak in the Quadraped category for the summer series. Go Presto!!!

Stretching 10:00 [3]

Stretching after another very cold shower. Luckily this time it was warm outside, so the entire experience was significantly less painful!

Stretching 10:00 [3]

And stretching again in the evening because my right knee is now also bothering me...
