Waterfall hike in the Columbia River Gorge with Sam and Presto! We were hoping to go to Mount Hood for some more skiing today, but alas, the weather had other ideas. All of the cross country ski areas that Presto was allowed in were supposed to get an inch of rain today, which just sounded generally unpleasant. Instead we, along with seemingly the entire population of Portland, decided to go check out waterfalls in the Columbia River Gorge. We lucked out and found a parking spot at the Wahkeena Falls trailhead. Then we headed over to Multnomah Falls, which was unbelievably crowded. We hiked up the switch-backy trail and then up to Dutchman Falls, Weisendanger Falls, Ecola Falls, and Fairy Falls before heading back to Wahkeena Falls. The area had burned in the 2017 fire, but it was still a really nice hike. The waterfalls were flowing quite nicely and it wasn't raining as badly as we expected. I guess most of the rain was on Mount Hood.
We were delightfully muddy, but ready for a few more waterfalls, so we headed over to Coopey Falls, which apparently is best viewed from a convent, but we didn't realize it, so we just hiked partway up the Angel's Rest trail. We then headed over to Bridal Veil Falls, which was a pretty great waterfall with a quite short trail. We tried to see Shepperd's Dell Falls, but the trail was closed, so we headed over to Latourell Falls instead, which was a pretty fantastic waterfall. It was basically dark at this point, so we headed on back to Gresham for some conveyor belt sushi, which was surprisingly good. It wasn't skiing, but it was still a pretty good day!
