Running 55:56 [3] 6.0 mi (9:19 / mi)
shoes: Brooks Running 20

Running with Sam and Presto at Redwood Regional Park in the rain! This was kind of chilly, but super awesome. The forest was full of misty fog and rain and tall trees and the mud wasn't *too* deep. Presto was kind of confused about why we would run in these conditions, but seemed to have a good time anyway.

My knee was totally fine today. Actually, my legs felt great today, which was a nice change. Sam was taking it pretty easy today because his knee has been bothering him recently, so I was doing a bit of running ahead and waiting and bouncing back and forth and stuff. Fun, fun!

Strength 24:00 [3]

Sam was saying that he should stretch more, so we did the Irish video again today. I thought it was great. Sam complained that it assumed a ratio of upper to lower body mass that was kind of low for most guys. I guess that's something I don't have to worry about...

Then I added 9 minutes of glute exercises as the end.

Stretching 20:00 [3]

15 minutes of the stretching part of the pilates video and then some more stretching to hit things like the piriformis and calves that weren't focused on in the video.

Strength 39:00 [3]

My knee was feeling fine today, but I decided to give it another day of rest before going running. I decided to see if I could find some good pilates for running videos online to try. Turns out there are a bunch of them. I wanted to do at least 30 minutes of something, so I arbitrarily chose a 30 minute video. It turned out to be a very quiet and calm Irish woman and the video was pretty evenly split between stretching and strength.

I wasn't tired when the video was done, and youtube did its roll over to the next video thing, so I just kept going. Turns out it was a more of a crossfit bro running this video and it was way more strength and way less stretching. So a nice mix of things in general.

Then I threw in 9 minutes of glute specific exercises at the end.

Stretching 15:00 [3]

The stretching part of the first video.

My legs and hips haven't felt this good in a long time. I should do this more often.

Note

I have an odd pain underneath my kneecap when I go up or down stairs. This feels completely out of the blue. It didn't hurt at all yesterday during lab or when running. It was kind of sharp and painful on the first step down in the morning, but then I wiggled my kneecap around a bit and it seemed to get significantly better (although still noticeable). I guess I'll keep an eye on it. I am baffled.

Running 29:26 [3] 3.1 mi (9:30 / mi)
shoes: Brooks Running 20

Running with Presto after lab! Sam's knee wasn't feeling good today, so it was just me and Presto. The good thing about this is that since I got home around 6:15, I got to get out for a run before 7pm. Woohoo! It turns out that I am much less tired while running when I run earlier. Shocking, I know. I'm trying to be better about getting out of work at a reasonable time because I've been slipping back to leaving at 7pm being an early day. It's just so easy for lab to take over my life... I know I restate this goal every couple of months, so I guess I'll see how long it lasts this time.

Anyway, the run felt pretty good with some odd twinges in my ankles. I don't really know what's up with that. Presto was all spritely and happy and it was generally a good evening.

Strength 5:00 [3]

Normal abs.

Stretching 10:00 [3]

Normal stretching while Sam put bindings on my new backcountry skis!

Running 30:52 [3] 3.1 mi (9:57 / mi)
shoes: Brooks Running 20

Running with Sam and Presto after lab! Sam got home about 40 minutes after me tonight, so I had time to get all cozy on the couch before dragging myself outside. And then I had to stop after 5 minutes to extract a thorn from my toe that must have been hanging out in my sock (sigh, California). Anyway, this is all to say that getting started was sort of a struggle, but the way down the hill was fun at least! Presto was WAYYYYYY more spritely than he was on Sunday, which was good :-).

Stretching 10:00 [3]
