Orienteering 24:03 [3] *** 3.4 km (7:04 / km) +60m 6:30 / km
15c shoes: Brooks Running 20

Prologue sprint at Presidio with Presto! Fun course mostly in the buildings with a bit of scrappy forest thrown in. I lost a bit of time to Presto's bathroom needs and one confused moment with similar looking buildings around a parking lot, but otherwise, this was pretty good.

Orienteering 24:24 [3] *** 3.5 km (6:58 / km) +45m 6:33 / km
17c shoes: Brooks Running 20

Chase sprint with Presto at Presidio! I started 3 seconds in front of Peter, so there was a bit of back and forth at the beginning. Presto clearly saw no particular need to run twice today and was kind of dragging on this sprint, so we started drifting behind a bit. This was exacerbated by getting caught in a bunch of thorns on a "trail", which seemed to take forever to extract ourselves from, and Peter got away for good at that point. Otherwise, it was really fun running around the Presidio with some nice views of the Golden Gate Bridge. Glad we made it out!

Stretching 10:00 [3]

Stretching back home.

Running 28:54 [3] 3.1 mi (9:19 / mi)
shoes: Brooks Running 20

Running with Presto after lab! Presto was quite pleased to get to go running during a break in the rain today. My legs were feeling good, which was nice. My right shoulder is still disturbingly sore. Doing all the pipetting necessary for 48 minipreps and 46 sequencing reactions definitely did not improve things. Good thing it's almost the weekend!

Strength 5:00 [3]

Normal abs.

Stretching 10:00 [3]

Normal stretching.

Running 29:19 [3] 3.1 mi (9:27 / mi)
shoes: Brooks Running 20

Running with Presto after lab! Just a quick run before heading out to a (belated) birthday dinner with Sam. My legs are slightly tired from Sunday, but actually feeling pretty decent, which is nice. My right shoulder is inexplicably sore, maybe from the planks in the pilates video and/or from carrying around a vaguely heavy box full of dry ice and RNA??? Presto seemed totally recovered from the weekend. The next storm was just barely starting while we were running.

Strength 5:00 [3]

Normal abs.

Stretching 10:00 [3]

Normal stretching. Sam got an emergency alert from Berkeley that it was going to rain. Berkeley's "weather" related anxiety will never cease to amuse me.

Running 1:45:40 [3] 9.2 mi (11:29 / mi) +550m 9:41 / mi
shoes: Brooks Running 20

Running with Tori and Presto at Sunol Regional Park! Super fun run! The hilltops were actually covered in snow today, which was something I've never seen before around here. Tori and I started out up the Indian Joe Trail, which had a gazillion stream crossings. It was pretty chilly, so we were all pretty squeamish about getting our feet wet and all spent a hilarious amount of time debating the best way to get across each stream.

At one point, Presto decided he would just jump the entire stream. In theory this would have worked well, except the earth bank on the other side of the stream was slipperier than he expected and he just sort of slammed chest-first into the earth bank and flopped backward into the stream. I was about to jump into the stream and rush him back to the car when he sort of shook himself off, jumped out of the stream, and trotted over to us. He seemed to want to pretend the crash had never happened, and didn't seem to be in any pain, so we continued on.

There was A LOT of climb on this run, and after 40 minutes or so of climbing, my legs started to make themselves felt, so we did a bit more walking the uphills after that... We saw Sam, who had gone on a shorter loop to protect his knee, over on the next hill as we were coming to the top of our first big hill. The views were awesome with snowy hills in the distance. And even a little bit of snow on the hill we were on! Awesome! Definitely my first time touching snow while in the Bay Area!!! Super cool!

We then headed on a really fun singletrack trail down to another stream crossing and then over to another overlook with even more awesome views of the snowy ridge. It was SO BEAUTIFUL! We headed down from there to Little Yosemite, which was cool and had a lot of water in it, but even at this time of year seems somewhat aspirationally named. Presto was super chipper for the entire run and clearly was having a blast, which is always great. Super fun run!!!

Strength 15:00 [3]

My legs felt so good after the pilates video last weekend, that I decided to give it a go this weekend, too. Definitely a good call even if I was pretty tired on the strength parts.

Stretching 25:00 [3]

Stretching in the pilates video and then normal stretching.
