Hiking 3:30:00 [3] 9.0 mi (23:20 / mi) +600m 19:20 / mi
shoes: Saucony Peregrine

Backpacking with Sam, Carly, Jim, and Presto out to Mount Elwell! We backpacked into Smith Lake, which was pleasantly only a mile or so, and set up camp before heading up to Mount Elwell with daypacks. The hike up was fairly uninspired - pretty steep and kind of warm with not a lot of views. We eventually popped out at a big section of snow, which we were a bit worried we wouldn't be able to make it over, but with some careful scrambling, we managed to get up it. The views from the peak were truly excellent over to Sierra Buttes and across a bunch of alpine lakes. We could even see Lassen in the distance.

We came down the other side of the mountain, which had way better views and went past Long Lake, which is absolutely gorgeous, but doesn't allow camping. We were starting to push up against dark, but managed to get back to the campsite (which amusingly, required going back past the car again on the way...) in time to jump in the lake for a quick swim and get the water filtering and a fire started. Fun, fun!

Running 13:43 [3] 1.4 mi (9:48 / mi)
shoes: Brooks Running 20

Running with Presto after lab! I had to do a 12 hour time course today, which necessitated being in lab for 14 hours, which is really too many hours to be in lab. I was pretty exhausted by the time I got home, but it seemed like my brain could use some time outside, so I took Presto for a short easy run up the hill a little ways. Running up the hill was about as painful as I expected. Running down the hill was quite nice. This was exacerbated by the fact that Presto was highly unexcited to be running away from his future dinner on the way up the hill and very excited to be running towards his dinner on the way down the hill. Good to get out!

Running 32:15 [3] 3.1 mi (10:24 / mi)
shoes: Brooks Running 20

Running with Sam and Presto after lab! Things probably happened on this run, but this week has been so long I only barely remember that I even ran on Tuesday. It was probably nice, and Presto probably had a good time.

Hiking 2:00:00 [3] 5.4 mi (22:13 / mi)

Easy hike with Sam, Elizabeth, Felicia, Presto, and Hammy at Redwood Regional Park! We wanted to go to a park that would be a bit cooler for Hammy because he doesn't really have a nose (silly Frenchies...), so we headed to Redwood park. It was the perfect temperature for Hammy and Presto who were both having a great time. It was really nice to catch up with Elizabeth and Felicia. After the hike, we headed off to Thai Sunday Brunch, which was fantastic as always!

Running 34:40 [3] 3.5 mi (9:54 / mi)
shoes: Brooks Running 20

Running with Presto! We were up a bit later than usual for a wedding last night, and I crashed after we got home from Thai Sunday Brunch, but then I worried that I wouldn't be able to sleep at night, since I'd slept for like 1.5h in the afternoon, so I dragged Presto off for an evening run. Presto was not entirely convinced that going for a run was the best of plans. He was having quite a nice afternoon of snoozing on the couch, but I think he at least enjoyed the downhill :-). We ran into Vince at the top of the hill who was driving down the hill while we were running up. Good to get out!
