Running 1:24:31 [3] 6.3 mi (13:25 / mi) +400m 11:12 / mi
shoes: Brooks Running 21

Running with Sam and Presto at Redwood Regional Park! Sam wanted some steep climbs today, so we headed out to Redwood Park. My butt and ankle were feeling pretty decent, so I thought it would be ok, but once confronted with a steep trail run, it became clear that they are not totally healed. My butt basically decided it was done running uphill after 25 minutes, which is sort of problematic on Bay Area trail runs, so there ended up being much walking. I also managed to roll my ankle like 5 minutes into the run again, but it only hurt for a second or two, so I don't think I did much additional damage. It was also in the 90s and I was really dehydrated, so all-in-all, not the most fun run I've ever had... I sort of died until we reached the Redwood Bowl, where there's a water fountain and the run starts going downhill. The downhill was at least quite fun, although I was being super careful with my ankle, so I was sort of mincing along. Then it was just the long flat section along the "stream" to get back to the car, which felt like an eternity today.

Stretching 10:00 [3]

Normal stretching back home. Sam suggested we get bubble tea after the run, so we headed to Chinatown, and then once we were there decided that we might as well get some lunch as well, so by the time I got home I was feeling about a million times better.

Running 32:10 [3] 3.5 mi (9:11 / mi)
shoes: Brooks Running 21

Running with Presto after lab! Oof! Hot today! Presto was super excited to go for a run until we actually got outside and started running. He then seemed intent on informing me that it was over 80, and that is an unacceptable temperature for running. My ankle was feeling pretty good while running (although, it still hurts when I rotate it inwards). My butt is still sore, but it is a more manageable kind of soreness that feels like it is improving, so that's good. It was nice for running to feel a bit more normal again!

Strength 5:00 [3]

Very sweaty normal abs while Presto panted on his beanbag chair.

Stretching 10:00 [3]

Normal stretching. Still some funniness going on with my butt muscles, but generally less troubling than Tuesday.

Running 22:48 [3] 2.0 mi (11:24 / mi)
shoes: Brooks Running 21

Running with Presto after lab! My butt is amazingly sore. I'm not sure if it is a consequence of running while my body was producing a fairly substantial inflammatory response or if running right after getting stung somehow got the venom nicely imported into my muscles or some combination of the two, but wow is it painful. My ankle is doing pretty well. It was a bit swollen and moderately sore yesterday, but today is just sore when I rotate it inward and otherwise seems fine.

I decided to just go out for a really easy run to see if I could sort of clear out whatever is going on in my butt muscles. I took it super slow up the hill, but even still my butt was pretty painful. I was starting to notice my gate getting a bit uneven after a mile, so I turned around and jogged back down the hill, which felt a lot better (although still wasn't perfect). At least my ankle felt more or less ok the entire time!

Presto was unexcited about running uphill and super excited about running downhill. I think the prospect of dinner might have had something to do with that :-). Sunset over Mt. Tam was pretty spectacular tonight!

Strength 5:00 [3]

Normal abs.

Stretching 10:00 [3]

Normal stretching with some extra concentration on the glute stretches.

F21E Sprint at Cabrillo College! My left glute/upper hamstring area was pretty swollen from the yellow jacket sting yesterday and the muscles in that area informed me that there would be no fast running today. It was still super fun out there, though!

I was totally convinced that most/all of the landscaped areas would be olive green, so I had a bunch of hesitation carefully checking my map to make sure that I could actually approach the control even once I could actually see the control. The only other major issue I had was not noticing a section of crossable wall in the middle of a mostly uncrossable wall and ending up running all the way around a building instead of just jumping the wall. Super fun course!

2nd leg of the sprint relay with Presto the Sea Anchor! (I forgot to start my watch and results are still being worked out, so time is an estimate.) Our goal was to make sure that Sam was not in the mass start, and Aron tagged off to me in a good position to make that goal. It was pretty warm by this point, so Presto was moving even slower than my glute was up for going, so there was much dragging (and also peeing and pooping...). Things mostly went well. I had a bit of confusion on the butterfly loops about which control to go to when, but figured it out without actually running in any incorrect directions.

The only major problem out there was when I was running across a parking lot and reading my map at the same time. I didn't notice a curb, tripped over it, and rolled my ankle pretty bad. I felt a pop, fell down, and just kind of lay there for a bit while Presto looked at me in surprise. I got up and walked it off a bit, and then started jogging, but it bothered me for the rest of the course. I came through the spectator control with about 5 minutes to spare on the mass start, and managed to tag off to Sam with like 3 minutes to spare. Fun, fun!!

Stretching 10:00 [3]

Stretching back at home. My butt and ankle are both pretty sore.
