Hiking 1:00:00 [3] 4.0 mi (15:00 / mi)
shoes: Brooks Running 21

Hiking with Sam, Monika, Vince, Jens, Ingrid, and Presto at Pinecrest Lake! We vaguely tried to get a group to go for a trail run before Darae's wedding, but people were only interested in an easy hike, so we decided to go for a hike to increase hang-out time. The lake was nice but SUPER, SUPER low. They appear to be draining it in anticipation of snow. (COME ON SNOW!!!) Water was pouring out of a ginormous pipe below the dam. The lake was still pretty, though, the hike was pleasant, and it was fun to see everyone, so all in all, a good day to be outside!

Running 32:17 [3] 3.1 mi (10:25 / mi)
shoes: Brooks Running 21

Running with Presto after lab! My left knee has been niggling a bit on and off this week, so I figured I'd see how things went while running, but it was completely fine, so that was nice. I figured I'd take it nice and easy anyway, though. It drizzled for about 10 minutes this afternoon, which surprisingly managed to clear some of the smoke out of the air, so the entire run was quite pleasant. Presto was a little slow on the uphill, but sped up quite a bit on the downhill.

Strength 5:00 [3]

Normal abs.

Stretching 10:00 [3]

Normal stretching. My left leg is super tight.

Hiking 3:30:00 [3] 10.0 mi (21:00 / mi) +700m 17:15 / mi
shoes: Saucony Peregrine

Hiking with Sam and Presto in the Ansel Adams Wilderness! After watching the transit of Mercury with Kyle, Orea, Ansel, and Presto, we said goodbye to everyone and headed to Mammoth to hike up to the Mammoth Crest. We were hoping to make the entire loop through Duck Pass, but we didn't have enough time with the 6 hour drive back to Berkeley ahead of us, so we turned around at the high point on the Crest. I was feeling WAYYYYY better today, so maybe it was a 24h thing or something.

The hike was gorgeous with really nice views over to Banner, Ritter, and the Minarets in one direction, the spiky stuff around Duck Lake in another direction, and Lake Mary, Lake George, Crystal Lake, and Crystal Crags in still another direction. Super awesome end to an awesome weekend! The high Sierra is always spectacular!!!

Stretching 10:00 [3]

Stretching back home. I starting feeling nauseous again on the drive home, so maybe I'm not quite done with whatever's going on, but at least it let me get a bunch of cool hikes in! My legs are going to be a bit sore...

Hiking 3:30:00 [3] 10.5 mi (20:00 / mi) +600m 16:59 / mi
shoes: Saucony Peregrine

Hiking with Sam, Erin, Skadi, and Presto in the John Muir Wilderness! After some debate about the best plan for the day, we headed out with Erin and the baby, while Kyle stayed home with the older kids. Erin suggested we head to Piute Pass, and with our policy of never ignoring suggestions from locals, we agreed. The hike was super nice with cool views of awesome cliffy mountains and really awesome views over the pass into Piute Valley. Oh, and in fun trivia, the hike started at the trailhead where the Mac High Sierra default background picture was taken.

My legs were a little tired from yesterday right off the bat, but Erin was carrying an entire person and doing fine, so there was no way I was complaining :-). I did have a surprising amount of trouble with the altitude (headache starting at like 10,500ft). We topped out at 11,460ft, which I think is higher than I've experienced in at least a year, but altitude doesn't usually bother me, aside from gasping for air, so I was surprised to being having so much trouble.

It was a bit chilly, so Presto got super excited about getting back to the car about 2 miles from the trailhead. He was charging ahead, and we forgot the leash, so it took quite a bit of convincing to keep him down to our speed for the last bit :-).

Stretching 8:00 [3]

Normal stretching. Absolutely miserable headache and diarrhea, so maybe I do have some sort of bug after all...
