Running with Marie-Jose, Francois, Erin, Wayne, and Presto at Morgan Territory in the rain! Erin organized a couple of training exercises at Morgan Territory today, so we decided to go. (Sam just went for a trail run so as not to come in contact with any poison oak.) The run to the start of the first exercise was surprisingly long, but good for warming up a bit. Presto was extremely pleased to be running with a group!

O-tervals at Morgan Territory with Presto! The start was in a small-ish field filled with calves that were EXTREMELY displeased that water was falling from the sky. (I guess, this week would be their first experience with this phenomenon.) Also, that there was a dog around. There was much mooing and general expressions of cow displeasure.
We all ran the o-tervals in different orders so that following would be kept to a minimum. I ran the third o-terval first, which was super steep and took me 20 minutes. Aside from the steepness, I also had a few route choice issues with cows and one with more green than I was expecting that resulted in some mental flailing on my part. I was a bit worried about finishing the exercise without making everyone wait too long, but it turned out that the other two loops were much faster, between not having a ginormous hill and me not making stupid mistakes. Fun, fun!

Middle course at Morgan Territory with Presto! After a brisk walk to the start of the middle, we set off on a mass start because it had started raining in earnest at this point and no one was excited about standing around in the cold rain. Marie-Jose was right behind me for the first part of the course before I finally dropped her going to 7. The course was super fun, and I was nicely focused and navigating well. Presto was also having a blast even though it was raining. I initially thought I might cut some of the course because I wasn't sure how long I wanted to be out in the 40-something degree rain, but it ended up being so much fun and going so smoothly that I did the entire thing.

I turned my brain off instantaneously upon reaching the finish of the middle course, and made a 180 to get back to the parking lot. Presto was having none of that, though. He gave me a supremely disgruntled look and started off in the correct direction. I told him he was going the wrong way and didn't he want to go get warm in the car, and he just looked at me like I was insane. I finally noticed that the direction I was going didn't appear to match the map at all and apologized to Presto before heading back to the car. That's probably the first time Presto has ever been a navigational help in 12 years of orienteering together :-). Good thing I had my trusty sidekick!
