Running 1:15:36 [3] 6.7 mi (11:17 / mi) +400m 9:31 / mi
shoes: Brooks Running 22

Running with Presto in the rain! I wanted to get out for a run before making pie for Pi Day, so I headed out. It's actually raining here, which is a nice March Miracle. Perhaps we will have some water left in our reservoirs after the summer. Presto and I headed up to Tilden and then ran to Lake Anza. I was definitely struggling on the steep, muddy uphills, so we didn't go all the way to the top today. Presto was displeased by the rain and complained in his passive aggressive way by just sort of dragging the entire time. Ah Presto :-). Super nice run out in the misty, damp forest!

Running 32:27 [3] 3.1 mi (10:28 / mi)

Running with Sam and Presto after lab! I have very little recollection of this run. (It's been an eventful 5 days.) I assume it was pleasant and a good way to relax after work :-).

Running 33:58 [3] 3.5 mi (9:42 / mi)

Running with Presto after lab! Wow! There was a mindblowingly beautiful sunset tonight! Definitely an advantage of daylight savings time :-). I fell really hard at one point on Sunday and my butt is still kind of sore from that, which made running a bit painful, but other than that this was a good day to be outside.

Cross-Country Skiing 4:00:00 [3] 7.9 mi (30:23 / mi) +380m 26:26 / mi
shoes: Rossignol Backcountry Skis

Backcountry skiing with Sam, Tori, Carlo, and Presto! Our original plan was to spend the entire weekend in the mountains, but then it failed to snow for an entire month and we were struggling to come up with an entire weekend of snow activities. And then it actually decided to snow yesterday (yay!!!), so we decided to just go up for the day today.

We headed to Carson Pass, which is the highest location with trails that Tori and I are unlikely to die on that we know of. The snow was actually fantastic! There was about a 2-3 foot icy base with about 4-6 inches of beautiful powder on top of it. These are Presto's absolute favorite conditions, and I think they are pretty great for us humans as well. We had a pretty delightful ski down to Woods Lake with Presto running alongside us, and then a relatively straightforward climb to the clearly below Winnamucca Lake. The snow was a bit icy on the steep climb to the lake, but I had enough snow stuck to the bottom of my kick zone, that I didn't actually have any trouble with grip :-).

We had lunch by the lake, and then continued up Elephant's Back. The sun went behind the clouds while we were eating and the wind picked up, and it was considerably colder for this climb. It was also a lot icier, and we were all (except for Sam) having a bit of trouble getting enough grip to get up the mountain. We did eventually make it, and got some super nice views off to the south.

Tori and I were a bit concerned about the ski back to the car, but it was actually completely awesome! The iciness of the mountain was way less of an issue going down than coming up (somehow?), and once we got back into the trees we had beautiful powder making all the maneuvering through the trees really straightforward.

Super, super fun day!!!!!

Stretching 10:00 [3]

Normal stretching back home after a stop in Tracy for GINORMOUS burritos. My burrito leftovers will definitely provide me with 2 additional meals :-).

Carlo somehow ate an even bigger burrito than mine and was still hungry for more food...
