Running with Presto on the Nimitz Trail! After about an hour of online safety training to get certified to do COVID-19 testing, I decided to do a normal weekend-like thing and go for a run in a park. I didn't want to do something too strenuous since my hip flexors got a bit of a workout yesterday, so I just headed to the Nimitz trail. I was expecting there to be people there, but I wasn't mentally prepared for all of Berkeley to be there...
The first mile or two was actually kind of stressful because people are very bad at staying 6 feet away from other people, so I was lurching from one side of the trail to the other and hopping into the (hopefully not poison-oak infested) grass/bushes on the side of the trail trying to get away from people. The only good thing about this was that I ran into Rikky, Simone, Galileo, and Olive who were out for a walk. We had a pleasant, shouted conversation from about 20 feet away from each other before I continued on.
I was initially only planning to run 4 or 5 miles, but about 2 miles out on the trail, the crowds really died down, and I wanted at least a while of running without it feeling like I was playing some kind of high-stress, slow motion video game, so I continued out a bit further than I'd planned. I probably would have gone even further, but Presto mutinied after about 3.5 miles and basically refused to run any further in the away-from-the-car direction. I guess he had a hard day yesterday :-). He picked the pace up considerably once we were headed back towards home. It was getting a bit cloudy and even drizzling a tiny bit by the time we got back into the populated part of the trail, so it was not quite as insane as the way out had been, which was nice. Good to get out!
