Running 30:00 [3] 3.1 mi (9:41 / mi)
shoes: Brooks Running 24

Running with Presto in the middle of lab! Sam's lab shifts are usually limited to 6 hours long, which means that we don't have to worry about Presto, but when Sam has a weekend shift, he can be in for as long as he wants. I also expected to be in lab for the entire day both days this weekend, so we decided I would come home to let Presto out today, and Sam would do the honors tomorrow. Once I was home, I somehow just couldn't just go back without spending at least a little bit of time outside, so I took Presto for a quick run. I was tired. Presto was slow, but it was still a super necessary stress reliever. Then I headed back to lab until midnight.

Running with Sam and Presto in Tilden! Today's my one day off in a 3 week period. The race to the finish is a bit painful. I didn't leave lab until 11pm last night, so I was pretty tired today, but we wanted to head out for a run in the sun, so we headed up to the Quarry Trailhead in Tilden. Sam was also exhausted from working too much, so he suggested we go up the less steep way. I was not going to argue.

There was a disturbing amount of smoke from a 7 story building that is on fire in downtown Berkeley. (Actually right near my lab, which was kind of startling to discover when I finally emerged from lab last night.) It was getting worse as we ran west, so we took a new trail up to the ridge, which was actually probably my favorite way up the hill I've done from this trailhead. I felt better and better as the run went on and I shed some stress. Not sure when the next time I'll have a chance to get out will be, so it was nice to get out for a good run today!

Pinata smashing! A bunch of the people that have been in my current lab over the years threw me and Sam a goodbye party, which was super nice of them. We have a tradition where the lab makes a pinata for whoever is leaving, and they were worried that I might not get a pinata from the current lab, so they made me one for this party. The original plan was to have the party outside in a park, but Berkeley put a 3-household limit on outdoor gatherings, so instead a couple of people came over to our backyard with the pinata and everyone else joined virtually. The pinata was exceptionally well made, and it took me 10 minutes to break it open. I know this for a fact because Sam kindly recorded the zoom meeting for that period :-).

I have blisters on my hand from hitting this pinata. My arms and shoulders will definitely be sore. I feel this is a good metaphor for a postdoc...

Really awesome to see everyone. It ended up being a great party even if we couldn't gather in person!

Stretching 10:00 [3]
