Skiing with Sam and Presto at Hammond Hill! We decided to head back to Hammond Hill this weekend to ski all the trails we didn't make it to last weekend. This was an excellent choice as the snow was fantastic! Presto was also really excited to be out for a fun day outside, so it was pretty great all around.

It was snowing lightly when we started skiing, but while we were there, the snow cleared up and the sun actually came out, which is kind of astounding. We skied up Yellow 1 to the Green trails. The Green trails were AWESOME, although they did involve quite a bit of breaking trail. Going down a looooong downhill first isn't exactly my favorite direction to do the uphill/downhill order, but it was super nice to be out in the snowy woods without having to worry about other people for a while. We then came back up the hill and skied over to the Red trails, which were also super nice. My skis had basically no wax on them by this point, so it was pretty slow going, but still lots of fun. I was getting pretty tired by the time we were back on Yellow 5, but it was still a really nice ski back to the car. Fun, fun!

Running with Sam and Presto after not-lab! I really, really wanted to submit my paper before I went running today, but the journal website was apparently not on board with this plan. I uploaded all the files, then went through the gazillions of pages of other things you have to fill out to submit papers, and an hour later, the PDF conversion of the files was still not complete. I did some chores and fed Presto, and they still weren't converted. Finally I figured sitting around waiting for the files to convert was not really improving their conversion speed or my general stress level and it was after 8pm, so we just headed out for a run.

By this point, I was kind of frazzled and just wanted to get outside. The weather has been pretty consistently the same temperature almost every day we've been here, and I failed to check the weather and just put on the same amount of clothes I have been wearing. Oops. It was not 30 degrees outside. It was 15 with a wind chill of -9, and I was not wearing anywhere near enough clothes... That being said, it had actually snowed an appreciable amount last night and today, and it was super pretty with squeaky, fluffy snow underfoot. I'm glad we just did the shortest loop, but if I'd been wearing another layer or 2, it would have been a super nice night to be out!

Running with Presto after not-lab! It snowed all day today and I think we managed to accumulate an entire inch of snow. Ithaca weather is kind of baffling. It was pleasantly squishy and crunchy under my feet and gave the run an extra bit of fun. Presto was super excited about the snow and wanted to run REALLY FAST. Fun, fun!

Skiing with Sam and Presto at Hammond Hill! There's still only about an inch of snow in Ithaca, but we'd had several reports of excellent snow up by Hammond Hill, so we headed there this morning. It's only about a 20 minute drive, but there was about a foot of snow at Hammond Hill, which was pretty great. Presto seemed sort of skeptical about the skiing plan to start out, but once we started getting some fast downhills in, he seemed much more excited. I guess he just wanted to run today!

We decided to just ski around and get a feel for what the various difficulty trails are like in the area, so we endeavored to ski on at least one beginner, intermediate, and advanced trail, which got us a good way around the park. I have to say, it kind of seems like the person deciding trail difficulties just sort of arbitrarily assigned them. I could not really detect any difference in the advanced and beginner trails, but they were all fun, so it was all good! Great to spend so much time outside this weekend!!
