British Nights - Muir of Dinnet
Strange. Didn't really decide to do this until the morning and even jogging to the start things weren't right in the chest. Still too much coughing to be comfortable, but felt I should start steadily and see what happened. And anyway how can you not run a British Nights at Muir of Dinnet..on your doorstep or not.

Got into things reasonably comfortably with 1-4 and through 4 with maybe 30s lost at 2 being too close to the pylon. Not surprisingly didn't seem to be running well at all but figured that accuracy is what matters at MoD.

Intended using the track to 5 but went across it thinking it was the earlier smaller one. 3 mins lost at least as I bounced off the upper track. Stupid as it was clear that this was the first of the trickier stuff.

Nice line down towards 6 through some good runnable stuff after the thinned bit then over the road and used the large double marsh / lochans to lead straight into the control.

6-7: took a line through 12 and then good compass over the flats and up over the cairned hill then a fair bit of hesitation going into the control. Clean through 8 using the two larger patches of boulders then could see 8-9 was a key leg.

Careful use of compass to the small re-entrant and patches of boulders 50m off line then got a little lucky by passing right by the small pit. Spent a very worthwhile 20s re-affirming where I was before heading uphill straight into 9.

Clean through 10, 11 and carefully through 12 with some small hesitations before the latter then just a matter of toiling through the last three in the open.

Loved it apart from the very unfit feeling. Well aware that on a good fit and accurate day much closer to 60 was very doable. Wasn't aware of seeing anyone else on my course at all. Very pleased with 1st especially with the rather awful preparation - and particularly pleased since it was on an area that is so unforgiving and undoubtedly gives you as good a technical night O challenge as you could possibly wish for in the UK. Brilliant fun. That event will take some beating this year ..but maybe I need to target the British Long now. :-)

JT 73, KT 78? and DR(M55 1st 63)
Well pleased with 4 BOC medals in last 9 months (2 x G, 1 x S, 1 x B)...the sprint is the blemish...getting "lost" in that dark Bath Uni underpass was a costly disappointment :-(
