3 x Hanoi’s Hoan Kiem Lake early on.
Through the streets to the lake dodging the scooters and mopeds. It’s said there are 5m scooters and the like in this city (even more, maybe 10m, in HCMC / Saigon) and I can believe it but they’ve agreed to ban them by 2030. Now that will be a real challenge. How on earth they will transition to that is anyone's guess. Many of them carry entire families or are stacked high with boxes, fruit or window frames and furniture.
Road around the lake is closed to traffic at weekends so plenty of room for all and not restricted to the lakeside path. Lots of Vietnamese and a few westerners using the early morning coolness to good effect. Don’t really know enough about tai chi or some of the other stuff to know who was doing what but it looked energetic anyway. Almost armies of people in team colours in places. All ages, shapes and sizes and even had a rare sighting of a road bike.
