Trail 1:24:51 [3] 14.8 km (5:44 / km) +267m 5:16 / km
shoes: Inov8 RaceUltra

Through the wood to Potties, then Deeside Way to Aboyne garage. Filled in a bit of the DW I'd never done....but it's a long route for a car pick up. Need to work out something more efficient south of the Dee that doesn't involve the road or going over Carnferg :-)

Grim. Many expletives.
Don't know if its partly an age thing, but its certainly partly a colour thing. The combination of the vegetation (heather and bracken, and areas of scattered trees), and the colours on the map at night, especially around 1 which were completely unreadable for me, made the first four a total disaster. Climbing down and then up the slope between 3 and 4 seriously wondered why I was doing this, and for fun. Very close to packing it in when I couldn't find the earthbank or the boulders in the bracken at 4. It maybe didn't help that I was pretty much out first.

Things got marginally better in the wood but I was long lacking in any concentration and motivation by then.

Trail 35:00 [3]

Aboyne Academy RC. 25 and all enthusiastic today.
Up the Tarland Way to the bridge at the entrance to Coull. 30s hill reps back up towards the road. Then back to school with 2 x 12 person repeating caterpillars....or whatever one might call them.
Seemed a popular session.

With 25k in my legs from yesterday wasn't over committed or spritely for this, particularly with the pretty chilly and wet conditions. But...you can't not when the great man is in town.

Still not really sure whether I'd go the whole way round as I pottered through 1 and 2. Got more into it as I warmed up and as the sodden bracken didn't seem so bad. Bit of a trudge with not much energy to give but such a nice place particularly with Autumn colours. Quite pleased in the end that I was still capable of running through the rough stuff. Certainly lacked any real focus though.

Brilliant talk from TG last night but the abiding memory is of a somewhat bedraggled wee MatthewG returning to the Cambus bridge car park with TG "in tow" having been shadowed. How good is that?
