Saturday Dec 2 #

Trail 1:15:00 [3] 12.0 km (6:15 / km) +384m 5:23 / km

Corybeg and Lamahip. Pretty warm and a real contrast to last few days. Snow rapidly disappearing so even up the mown track through the heather to the top of Lamahip there was very little of the stuff. Back through Home Farm.

XC Skiing 1:00:00 [3]

Round Aboyne Golf Course with T. Lovely. Met BP and WB out for a run.

Thursday Nov 30 #

Note

Potties DNC walk to the start looking very different this morning. Keeps on like this and the (rock..or maybe even the better) skis will be out this afternoon.

XC Skiing 36:00 [3] 3.1 km (11:37 / km)

Brilliant snow. Best locally for an age.
A few laps of the local fields.

XC Skiing 50:00 [3] 3.5 km (14:17 / km)

Playing around on the Toms Cairn track out in the open. Mostly really good although one or two windswept bare patches. Interesting lighting conditions. Really fun to be out and up there.
With T.

DNC Potarch
Caught out by the two spurs 1 and 4. 1 horrendously...(edit: gps trace says not horrendously...just passed within metres a couple of times maybe) , like a few others it seemed. Clean but slow uphill to 2, very hesitant to 3 for no real reason, 4 too low then nicely through the rest picking off one or two folk. Out sprinted by JG at the finish having first seen him leaving 1, and having seen him at various times...he won :-)

Nice to run on the updated map, which I don't suppose I really knew existed! Out of the bracken this place is great. Most enjoyable of the DNCs so far for me...not that Ive done many so far this time around.

Lovely weather so it had to be The Big Map Challenge (part 1)
Straight line from Glen Tanar, through Birsemore and Balfour to home. Direct West to East, almost entirely off tracks, roads and paths.
As expected the first bit was the toughest. Glen Tanar's heather with quite a bit of snow on the higher open bits didn't make life easy, but once through that the rest was all pretty good (bar one thick bit in Balfour). Just the deer for company as didnt see a soul the whole way.

Cheated a wee bit in that I didn't carry the Big Map with me.

Trail 8:00 [3] 1.3 km (6:09 / km)
shoes: Mudclaw 300 b/r

From Glen Tanar stables to the start of the Big Map challenge.
