A combination of a marathon effort and a flight soon after is clearly a bad idea..perhaps not surprisingly. Queenstown marathon in November then a long flight, Holmenkollmarasjen then a flight the next day, and each time I'm flattened by cough / cold combination after. In fact thecough has probably persisted since the long haul in November. Didnt seem to happen on other previous occasions without the flight bit.
Ongoing and not much I can do about it.

Vasaloppet now deferred for a year. Recovery period just too short especially given these coughs and colds.

DNC Easter Clune
Coughing a bit much but needed some Night O. So went out very gently and steadily. Somewhat confused by the wrong code at 7 and then slight calf twinge so called it a day there and walked back. Glad to get out and run a bit.

Then helped push a few cars out of the car park mud.

Achilles OK.

Still feeling somewhat drained and battered. Road/trail marathon recovery in November was quicker / easier.

Trundle round the community path loop to commence body recovery. Stopped for a chat with SW (garage repping on the treadmill whilst child watching).

Nice day for it.

Note

Bit of a cold and continuing cough somewhat worse. Both hardly surprising after standing about in minging wet and cold weather before and after the race on Saturday.

Travelling back. Sore toe, sore hips, sore hands. Sore most things and can barely put on my socks and shoes. Not a squeak from the achilles or calf yesterday or today though. Big big positive. Nice to be back in Oslo too.

Didn't expect it to be quite so tough yesterday. Very much a race for Norwegians not the "ski tourists". Think I was fit enough but outcome was some sort of combination of technique (poor?), skis, track conditions - don't know exactly other than I know I didn't move well at any time. I thought it would be the calf or the achilles or both that might be my downfall.

Note that at least 29 Norwegians need to take some skiing lessons as I beat them...but i probably finished further down a results list than I have ever done before. Still if you don't try....... :-)
