Whale Island to Quy Nohn

Diificult day because of the wind. Lot of sand blowing up early on. Interesting coastal run with a lot of prawn farms. Spent a lot of the ride providing a wheel for T to hang on to.

Three bits of sea urchin splinter remain but they aren’t causing too much gyp so they’ll just need to work themselves out.

On Whale Island

No biking today.

Got hold of a sketch map of the island and headed round the outer edge by the paths. Very rough single track undulating through the thick bush with occasional views. Loads of butterflies.. maybe 6 or 7 colourful varieties. Thin snake slithered quickly away up near the viewpoint but not poisonous. A few other things scuttled away as I approached. Nice 360 degree views from the top of the viewpoint - a bouldery tor needing a short ladder to get to the top. Round to the bay on the far side. Fishing boats of various sizes and a massive amount of washed up rubbish much of it polystyrene fish box material.

Swam in the bay but previously broke my prescription swim goggles earlier so not able to see much. Unfortunately trod on a sea urchin. Mighty painful so that put a premature end to the swim. Pretty lethal needle like spikes bits of which remained embedded in the sole of left foot.

Dis same loop walking with T late on too.

Up to Deo Khanh Le Pass, largely ridden with M at steady pace, then 30k of sweeping downhills then a flat 40k. Ride a lot of it gently taking in the views. Brilliantly scenic day.

Jogged down to the beach from where we were staying but afraid that the dark clouds would open and I’d be inundated. Didn’t happen. Lost my room key somewhere down there.
