Orienteering race 1:03:36 [4] **** 6.4 km (9:56 / km)
spiked:12/18c shoes: Mudclaw 265 R

VHI Individual, Inshriach, Blue course, M60(same course for M55's). A bit slow to 1 - adjusting to change of scale from relay? - control also seemed a long way along hill. Bad miss on 2 - sloppy bearing and couldn't make sense of contours, a bit of a headless chicken, 1m 15s. Was in such a panic that I would get caught by my English 2 min man (Rob Parkinson) that I got fastest split for 3. Cautious but safe through "chess board". Ran hard on the long, rough, leg 7-8 - fastest split :-). Struggled a bit on the next 6 controls in the technical section as the rain came on and my glasses were getting wet. Worst miss was on 9 when I must have been just above the control and went on a loop before I realised what had happened - 2m. Further 15s on 12, 30s on 13 and 30s on 14 when I took an ultra-safe route via paths and tracks. Pushed hard on the long leg 14-15 back through the crap - another fastest split :-). Finished third on Blue - 1st M60. Quentin 58.25, Big Jon 60.00. Barrett 64.48, Dixie 64.55 (!), DonP 71.43, Olsoran 72.29. Binned at least 5 mins but my times on the long tough legs saved me!

Orienteering race 24:32 [4] *** 3.15 km (7:47 / km) +125m 6:30 / km
spiked:12/16c shoes: X-Talon 212 (SF)

VHI Relays, Auchernack & Balliefurth, M-W-M team with Hazel Dean & Roger Goddard. Ran round just behind Big Jon most of the way, on a short option leg - we only had 1 control different! I made a mistake when I had to navigate on my own :-( Got dragged to control on stream bend instead of thicket beside the stream. We finished 1st and 2nd with a comfortable lead over the Auld Enemy and it stayed that way to the finish. Unfortunately England won the relay overall after one of our teams mispunched.
