Stuc a' Chroin 500 hill race. This one has been on my "To do" list for a while but always clashed with lambing time. Proper tough hill race! Longish forestry section to start with but mostly on rough paths and only a little on roads. From there it was a rough run along the edge of the forest followed by a steep drop into Glen Ample and an even steeper climb up Beinn Each. Into the mist so no views all the way on the rough, twisty, up and down ridge run to Stuc a' Chroin. Turned here, although Garmin suggests that the marshals weren't at the main top!, and returned along the ridge as far as Bealach nan Cabar and then dropped diagonally into Glen Ample. The route was marked the whole way which was handy in the mist as it could have been tricky navigation. Climb out of Glen Ample was brutal at this stage and there was still a long run back through the forest. Lots of marshals on the course handing out jelly babies, chocolate and water. Took some water, quite a few jelly babies and a little chocolate from the marshals plus 500ml juice and 3 gels that I had carried. Felt I was going quite well although tend to loose places on the descents - age related caution and eyes watering.
