Sunday Mar 23

MTB (easter pootle) 50:00 [2]
slept:8.0 shoes: Rocky Mountain Instinct
With John, Soph and Hunter (who bludged on the back). Rode to the Myalup easter fair, where Pete proudly dug up an easter egg in the sandpit and a lot of people, who really didn't need to, ate large hot dogs. Then back home again so that Hunter and John could have naps (they get a bit tired and grumpy after too many clowns and bouncy castles)
Run long (sand, sand and sand) 1:25:00 [3]
shoes: Metallic blue Asics
Lovely long run with John to the beach, then through the dunes (over every steep sand hill. "so that we can see better" said John, "because i'm not sure of the way". Sure...) Then through a graveyard for old tyres, over some more sand hills, out across the causeway between the pink lakes and back and then for variety some more sandhills. Felt really good, and ready for more. I guess because of a week off running, or maybe the sea air.
Paddle intervals (myalup) 40:00 [3]
shoes: Fenn XT
Was a bit grumpy and didn't have much time, so i did 40 strokes on/ 20 off for about 25min, then cruised back with the waves (not so good for catching today).
MTB (night) 1:30:00 [3]
shoes: Rocky Mountain Instinct
Same ride as yesterday but in the opposite direction and sans pete. So it was solid but not quite as solidly solid. Tried out the new lights, which are brilliant. Literally. I'm not sure exactly what John said to the Ayup people to get the large discount and all the free stuff, so i'm a bit worried about what will happen if we don't do well in the keen race.

Saturday Mar 22

Paddle (ocean) 1:25:00 [3]
slept:8.0 shoes: Fenn XT
With John and Pete at "Mylup". Good fun - pretty hard paddling into the seabreeze for 45min trying to catch pete who had pessimistically given himself a 15min head start. He thought he'd be slow on Soph's little ski but forgot that he would still be using Pete's muscles. I don't think we actually gained on him at all until he stopped to wait.
Great fun on the way back and caught a few good runs. I love the big waves that start to break behind you, so you have to paddle really really fast and go "wheeeeeee". It is the yelling i think that keeps the ski upright.
Got off on the wrong side of the boat and kneecapped myself, ouch.
MTB (myalup) 1:30:00 [3]
shoes: Rocky Mountain Instinct
Rode with john and pete out along the sandy limestone corrugated road, and back into the seabreeze along the edge of the lake. Perfect evening for it, and really good fun. Bailed a bit early to, er, help Soph with dinner. Or at least, to sit on the couch. Lucky because i gather the final 20min were a bit of a testosterone-fest that was better off left alone.

Friday Mar 21

Orienteering 20:46 [5] 4.06 km (5:07 / km)
slept:7.0 shoes: Metallic blue Asics
Trying out John's sprint course at Joondalup. Good fun, and well mapped (thanks carol and ken!) except where the work people keep moving the scaffolding. John walked it, and nearly didn't make it back after walking through the middle of the police academy lunch break, looking pretty shifty in a large floppy hat writing notes on a clipboard.
C • I was thinking about using ... 1
Run 30:00 [2]
shoes: Feet
This counts a jog at joondalup looking for john, some jogging around UWA checking my course while john ran it, and also a jog up the beach and back instead of the beach session.
Swim 5:00 [2]
shoes: Feet
Beach session was pretty hardcore tonight. Only deb turned up, and she was about as keen as we were. Then Brian rolled up 10min late having been drinking wine for 5 hours.

Thursday Mar 20

Run (dark) 55:00 [3] 10 km (5:30 / km)
slept:6.5 shoes: Brooks trail shoes
I've had enough of daylight saving now- should have ended 2 weeks ago. Vera and i started running at 6.15 and it was only just light when we finished. Felt good this morning. Wearing in new shoes which are really comfy already.

Wednesday Mar 19

Roadie (commute) 29:00 [2] 13 km (2:14 / km)
slept:9.0 (sick) shoes: Mongoose Roadie
Still have lyme disease, but it is much better now. Its actually really fun riding to work after a couple of days off training - effortless and still my second fastest time ever. Got here 45min early. Not because of the riding, just a moment of idiocy.
Roadie (commute) 45:00 [2] 19 km (2:22 / km)
shoes: Mongoose Roadie
Home. Thought about running but went to the movies instead which was far more fun. It was a documentary about a solo round the world yacht race during which all but one competitor went slowly mad. Awesome. Makes AR seem suddenly easy! Need to start training again one day though

Tuesday Mar 18

Roadie (commute) 22:00 [2] 10 km (2:12 / km)
slept:8.0 (sick) shoes: Mongoose Roadie
To work 1 then to parents' for lunch - thought i'd have a nap here to avoid the cleaning lady but she is everywhere....
Wasn't going to credit a sore throat and a temperature with being sick, but it stopped me going riding this morning and anyway boltboi claims sickness if a loud noise makes his heart rate go up to 45... ;)
I think i have caught sleeping sickness off the ticks from ngangaguringguring... but couldn't sleep anyway cos of the itching. John says if i don't stand still so much when in the bush i wouldn't get landed on so much. Fair call.
C • Ticks jump 2
Roadie (commute) 54:00 [2] 21 km (2:34 / km)
shoes: Mongoose Roadie
To work 2 then home. Would have been all time inverse PB if it weren't for the lovely tailwind on the way home! Thought about running then had a nap instead, which was far more enjoyable.

Monday Mar 17

Roadie (commute) 30:00 [3] 13 km (2:18 / km)
slept:8.0 (rest day) shoes: Mongoose Roadie
Nice pootle to work after a quick trip to the beach (beach was so lovely today)
Roadie (commute) 35:00 [2] 14 km (2:30 / km)
shoes: Mongoose Roadie
Pootle home again. Had a tow this time from some overmuscled lycra-clad roadie hoon - amazingly all the way to my front gate
