ahr:191 max:199 shoes: New Balance 767
Cross country relay at Fassifern.

Daniel, Matt, Josh B and me out representing newcastle orienteering (well except for josh anyway)
ended up coming 3rd in open mens, pretty good effort considering there was no bush in sight only a stretch of bike path that was as flat as ezy's chest

Friday May 30

MTB 40:00 [3]
shoes: Shogun Team
quick one to see how the mtb is going before the weekend.

not too much to say about this one other than i drew a few circles on the wrong feature and couldn't get my compass to point the way i though it was supposed to
Road Cycling 1:14:37 [4] 37.9 km (1:58 / km)
ahr:146 max:172 shoes: Merida Scultura 907
Felt good on the highway to Hexham but then dropped speed as i tired significantly after that, the hill up to industrial dr was not pleasant at all today

Sunday May 18

Orienteering (SL) 1:15:59 [4] **** 10.7 km (7:06 / km)
ahr:172 max:189 shoes: Asics Kayano
another cold one,
chronic climb to the start, short first one down the spur before a long one across the other side of the map. 1st starter was pretty lonely on the way across the map, was surprised to find a combi parked just below 3 in the middle of nowhere beside the creek, cant imagine how the hell they got there. and from the amount of crap they had spread out they weren't planning on leaving anytime soon.

from how cold it was at the start i didn't have high expectations, but the course was really good and the toes warmed up bout 15mins in so turned out to be pretty enjoyable running.
climbing out of the main creek at 13 was made pretty pointless when i realized that control was now directly below me in the next erosion, some would call how i got down falling, i prefer sliding with style. it ended well so was worth it going straight down rather than around to find an easier way into the erosion gully.

perked up with the arrival of the gold mining area and the control in the wicked cutting and tunnel area (see pics http://picasaweb.google.com/steventodkill/OphirDig...)

just that little bit of gold mining would have made the weekend worth the cold, even without Kahli's Rocks the day before.
C • SL weekend 2

Saturday May 17

Orienteering (SL) 47:46 [4] ***** 6.13 km (7:48 / km)
ahr:171 max:185 shoes: Asics Kayano
Kahli's Rocks

Cold and windy day, but did nothing to curb the excitement of running at on this map again. Was probably too excited and was pretty sloppy navigation at the start, the rocks quickly punishing me for not showing the proper respect.

Cracker of a map and good course setting did it justice. pity it was the short day, would have liked some more time out there. really enjoyed the variety where it changed out of the detailed rock for the fast loop at the end.

Note
Headed out to camp at Ophir, without the usual excitement i get when the forecast predicts snow. wrong situation for that crap

after a pretty darn cold night woke to find that the big guy had taken pity on the minions and thought it was a better idea to keep the snow for a later date, hopefully when im in NZ

Thursday May 15

Road Cycling 50:00 [3] 24.7 km (2:01 / km)
shoes: Merida Scultura 907
started out on the industrial drive loop, but once onto pac hwy wasn't feeling to comfortable with the amount of trucks and the patheticness of my lights, so diverted through shortland and back along newcastle road

felt pretty good but thats prob cos wasn't pushing very much

Wednesday May 14

Running 45:00 [3]
shoes: New Balance 767
quick dash around carrington loop.
mum's bday so was pretty late by the time i got back from dinner with her.
too late for anything but a stroll around, headlight fading to virtual non existence by the end

Tuesday May 13

Road Cycling 1:12:30 [3]
shoes: Merida Scultura 907
had a graduate promo night at work so got swamped by a "tour" of the office, took that as my sign that 7.30 was a late enough time to be working back.
ended up with more time in the night than i though so filled it by getting on the road. pretty quite on the industrial drive loop, which made for a nice and relaxing cruise. tried to stretch it out a bit a few times by was feeling sluggish, guess the body was thinking it was relaxing time since it was after dinner and a few days of lazyness prior

Monday May 12

Note
no training tonight

worked back trying to get this retaining wall out the door, then got a pretty good ab work out from carl baron at the civic

Tuesday May 6

Running 54:20 [3] 11.6 km (4:41 / km)
ahr:166 max:185 shoes: New Balance 767
lap out to merewether and back via beach and foreshore

squeezed in this one before having to once again pull a night-before job on another ridiculous assessment task
C • Colours 1

Running 30:00 [3]
shoes: New Balance 767
jog to/from indoor
Indoor Soccer 30:00 [4]
shoes: New Balance 767

Sunday May 4

Road Cycling 38:44 [3] 14.36 km (2:42 / km)
shoes: Merida Scultura 907
ride to O
Orienteering (NOY3) 48:36 [4] 7.36 km (6:36 / km)
ahr:170 max:185 shoes: Asics Kayano
NOY3 -Brush Creek

Started out missing my start time cos i was warming up. put Trotter's "that was your start time" down to sledging, then when i got back up to the start realised it actually was my start time (think i was min or so late)

messed up the 1st one, bout 1.5 min. relatively smooth only a few wobbles until 10 when hit the watercourse bit to the right and took a bit of time to realise what was happening.
went long on 14, bit more green in the creek so misinterpreted the patches above and below the control. then stopped short on the last one, bit confusing with the steep slope on the right of the gully and the little tracks

overall not overly happy with run and did feel like the legs had the edge taken off of them yesterday
C • distance? 3
Road Cycling 36:45 [3] 14.83 km (2:29 / km)
shoes: Merida Scultura 907
ride home

Saturday May 3

Road Cycling 36:47 [3] 14.8 km (2:29 / km)
ahr:159 max:190 shoes: Merida Scultura 907
Rode out to Redhead for cross country

As alway got a little lost following my nose through kahibah trying to short cut charlie. still made it there in time for the start so all good
the darn headwind going up the pacific hwy didn't help my cause .... i think there need to be a study to scientifically prove that the wind is ALWAYS against you while riding. I'm pretty sure most people's empirical evidence would support such a claim
Running (Cross Country) 44:40 [4] 9.91 km (4:30 / km)
ahr:178 max:187

a lot tougher race than i was expecting, don't know what made me think that it would be anything but hard

2 laps of the 5k course (2.5k out then back) had some chick pushing me along faster than i wanted to be going but couldn't just let her cruise on by. instead like an idiot stuck on her only to be demoralised when she took off at the last turn around

the tide was coming in so the 2nd lap was much tougher than the first since there was less and less hard stuff to run on. bout a min slower the second time around which i blame of that chick for taking what self respect i had.

main positive was i ground out the long course on the sand, unlike the other orienteering bludgers josh, daniel, kim, matt and alice. (with the exception of Russell who finished few hundred meters behind me)
Road Cycling 56:20 [3] 22.8 km (2:28 / km)
ahr:137 max:166 shoes: Merida Scultura 907
the ride home from Redhead was was good to tick the legs over and stretch the calves back out a bit

took the more scenic route home along the beaches

Thursday May 1

What's a Gym? (Weights) 1:30:00 [4]
1st weights session in ages, propably all year actually
pretty much weak as a baby, good to feel the deep burn again and from the feel of it right now its gonna burn for a good few days
