AROC - Cattai NP

Stingers team with Meyer boys
Kayak start was cool for the 1st 500m with the big bunch heading for a narrow creek. Spent the whole time bouncing off other boats/branches thats to daves supreme steering skills. team was struggling even before the bridge at the halfway point. finished 5mins back from the front runners in around 15-20th place.

Orienteering section at Mitchell park was pretty cool, dave was slightly off on a few controls not losing much time tho. was designated puncher so had to work pretty hard a few times to catch back up to the boys after punching. 4th place going back into the boats for the paddle back to the bridge.

Paddle back to the bridge seemed to go better than the 1st paddle, prob number of factors, not the sprint for the 1st bit, no other teams around to go past us, no other teams to accentuate our zig zagging down the creek

Orienteering back to TA, lost bit of time at 2 coming in from the road through the thick stuff but was going in the right direction so didnt loose too much time, saw prong/andy/seb go through on the bike putting them about 10mins up, overtook team crank in transion and didnt see them again

Bike leg was sweet, nice riding and some tricky nav. caught the fatrat mounting team after a hike-a-bike paid off for us early in the ride, spent the next lot of controls in close battle for the lead after passing the stinger/wannabe boys when they had a flat. lost contact with fatrat when we stopped to pump up daves front then rode to transition to then realise we had missed 16/17.
crossed over stingers/wannabes while heading to 16. Boys were riding pretty well, again had to haul arse to catch up after punching, especially while we were head to head with the others. Pretty lucky to only have a hand full of pump stops considering the amount of flats other teams had. Not sure what had higher tube death rate, this leg or the scott red lap.

Bonus started with orienteering back to where we dropped the kayaks, saw prongs ponies heading out to the 1st control, hit the 2nd one cleanly and into the boats to the slog to the finish area. didnt have much left for the paddle so was kind of happy that we had dropped off the 2 leading teams, spent the paddle checking over our shoulder to make sure were comfortable in 3rd. thought tom was bullshitting us when he said that only fatrats team had gone through the end of kayak.
seb's suckers had messed up the last bonus control and we had snuck through to finish 2nd team.

Cracker race/day, good effort by the boys

Note
Course set street o on Newcastle map
Would have prefered to be running and getting some warmth in me as standing around checking clues was pretty chilly
busier than expected with around 90 runners tackling the shocking conditions

2nd half of the map and also revisited the ones from yesterday when it was dark, good thing too cos had misread a 3 for 8 at one of them. either that or just couldn't read my own chicken scratch handwriting

ROUTE

Sunday Oct 12

MTB (Scott 24) 50:30 [5] 12.6 km (4:00 / km)
shoes: Shogun Team
Lap 4 - Red (Sunrise lap)
Woke up and tyre was dead, changed it up and ezy dropped the bomb that he was done, with the other boys sleeping we figured it would be best for me to do a double stint and let them rest as planned.

Sebba pulled out a good night lap and got back to the tent just as i was finishing getting the pit red-blue pit crew organised, sorry seb but its your own fault for riding mins quicker than expected.
Started the lap in the dark and was light before the climb started. Good smooth ride taking it a bit easy knowing i was going to back up. Sweet view of the sunrise from the top and much happier on the decent in the daylight
C • Sorry 1
MTB race (Scott 24) 1:00:20 [5] 14.2 km (4:15 / km)
shoes: Shogun Team
Lap 5 - Blue
After a quick gel and dump of the light battery headed out on the blue lap. cruised up the climb then pumped along the fire trail trying to clear the traffic.
Was so happy to see the tents and know that it was almost over
MTB (Scott 24) 50:00 [5] 12.6 km (3:58 / km)
shoes: Shogun Team
Lap 6 - Red
Last lap of the race. took it easy trying to finish bang on 12 (bout made it at 12.01). This lap rates up there with the sunrise lap, just cos of the relaxed pace and had time to enjoy the ride.
Had some bloke who sat on me the whole way up the climb and wouldn't pass even when i pulled wide to let him then at the top he just went nuts and was well out of sight before the caravan

Saturday Oct 11

Event: Scott 24hr

MTB (Scott 24) 1:00:00 [3] 14.2 km (4:14 / km)
shoes: Shogun Team
Warm up lap with the Stinging Chodes
1st time riding at Stromlo and it was impressive
Good to have a cruise around prior to race time
MTB (Scott 24) 50:05 [5] 14.2 km (3:32 / km)
ahr:179 max:191 shoes: Shogun Team
Lap 1 - Blue
Out 3rd after a cracker le mans start by dave and solid ride by prong
Unsure of how hard to go out after dave said he cracked 1/2 way so tried to keep a steady pace on the climb out of the car park. Felt like a good ride and mad adrenaline pumping after smashing the jump section
MTB (Scott 24) 45:44 [5] 12.4 km (3:41 / km)
shoes: Shogun Team
Lap 2 - Red
Headed out with the light fading, didnt need lights for the 1st part but then about 2mins into the main climb was like someone turned off the sun and lights flicked on.
Pretty happy with the ride, solid climb and maybe a bit slow on the decent since hadnt had a chance to check it out in the day light and this was 1st race pace night ride id done

Wicked timing as pizza had just arrived, oh so good, Thanks Michelle
MTB (Scott 24) 58:06 [5] 14.2 km (4:05 / km)
ahr:163 max:176 shoes: Shogun Team
Lap 3 - Blue
Headed out about 11thirt, fair bit of traffic on this one.
fair ride but starting to get a bit tired and make some mistakes, got some cool gravel rash on the shin/knee from little slide.
Slow leak in the back , stopped a few time to give it a pump. managed to nurse it through to the end of the lap happy to not have to change it in the dark

myth #467 - That cable ties sticking out from bike helmet will deter magpies from attacking - MYTH BUSTED, not only once but on 3 separate occasions. i'll win one day you stupid stupid birds

had a sprint up the rise near the end of the f3 through the cops radar setup, only managed to clock a 37 in 80zone, no fine for me today - glory was short lived as magpie no2 showed his pointy/sharp looking face

blatcho made the trek down for a ride and newy didnt disappoint with some superb weather. josh's pre ride quote "it wont rain any worse than this"

started with the fernley track hill time trial then started exploring around glenrock. couple of sections of pushing bike uphill after getting mixed up on tracks but pretty good ride nonetheless
starting to pull up with sore knee now after copping a tree
