Orienteering race 16:55 [4]2.3 km (7:21 / km)
U Miami campus Sprint at Pig. Nice course, clean run. Was able to plan ahead on nearly every leg. Hard to maintain pace.

Was pleased that I read and used 'arch' from 5-6 and the narrow chute from 9-10.

Only hesitation was from 13-14 - the redline passed near circle for 4 which I first read as 14 - then looked ahead and saw that 'next' control was also 14 - the real 14. Being on the way and looking ahead - my misreading cost little time - good thinking for near end of course:).
Running warm up/down 10:00 [2]
Warm-up for U Miami sprint.
Orienteering race 18:03 [4]2.1 km (8:36 / km)
Well-designed woods srpint at Pig. Several route choice problems. Very short legs 5-10 were quite confusing - good job:). I made reasonable route choices; planned ahead when I had free running; checked codes at short legs. Controls 4 and 5 came up really fast (not used to 1:5000 map in woods). Lost time 5-6 - should have just trusted compass; got near, saw lonely boulder on ground then map; still wandered south then corrected.

All went well EXCEPT I followed Vlad into Sprint 1 #1 and punched it. #1 on S1 was down trail on right in niche; unfortunately, my Sprint 2 #1 was 25 meters further on left at opening to field - DQ'ed - OOPS. I saw the control, turned off brain, began planning route to #2 - ignored many warning signs: left vs. right; we usually don't share #1; opening into field; leaving 1, I should have been in field; lake on right came up too fast; I did look at control #'s at Start - never checked it at #1 - UGH. Goal: On sprints especially, I tend to forget codes on way in, so for Sprint I will read code AT punch; look at clue sheet on way out for current and next code.

Total time would have been 3rd - behind Charlie and Glen. Boltz would have beat me on Sprint #2 and total time, but ould have beat me but he missed punching #5 - 4-5-6 were straight line.
