Orienteering race 1:30:00 [4] 5.0 km (18:00 / km)

Cool. Light rain more constant today than Saturday. Almost took Brown, but glad I stayed with Green.

Much more confidence in map reading. I did tend to read more features (eg on #6 I went right of red-line to catch two extra depressions.) and focussed on ridges. I still see many more usable ridges on ground than on map - need more practice reading map in woods to find more of them on map.

Three errors, but relocated very well on first 2, okay on 3rd to avoid huge errors. By far the best I've relocated on kettle morraine terrain. I maintained a sense of distance and "If I'm not on line, where might I be?"

Summary: 13 clean routes, two 1-2 minute errors with good relocation, one 7(?) minute error with heistancy and slow but accurate relocation.

Despite the rain on both days, a great first exposure to Camp Ripley map! Thanks to MNOC for the 2-day event. Between Cat maps and Ripley, I now know I'm capable of a good run in morraine terrain! Good confidence builder.

Saw Ripley's mapper Plamen - they've just moved from Colorado to MN. It is amazing how accurate the minor contour features are mapped! Only change was wetness in some depressions. By Day 2 I realized, "Read the depressions (they're big), don't depend on water and marsh in them."

3 from Chicago, 4 from KS area came up.
