Orienteering race 1:02:01 [4]
My orienteering was a bit rusty and I found it hard to get used to 1:15000 again, but overall a good run at Babler - first on Green. From S->1, I thought, even on road this feels long, watch the scale. 1->2 Went low, right of line, stopped way short at side reentrant (halfway?) - no control, where am I? Then pushed to big reentrant - ah, makes sense. Lost 2 minutes. Smooth rest of way - slow pace but endurance and legs felt very good. 40's and sunny - wow! Big turn-out.
S->1: Got into reentrant too quickly, then slow. Should have stayed high until drop-off. I don't mind choosing safe road route but never saw that red-line was feasible route. 6->7: Red-line; road seemed to far out of way to pay off. Seemed to be more ditches on ground than on map - I pushed right further than expected to find control - almost turned back. 8 seemed higher on map than on ground: climbed, stayed high, slow but good view, dropped down.
Old-timers day: Beside myself, Steve Frei, Tim G, and Ken Debeers showed up plus a guy wearing a 1978 Canadian O-shirt who asked up the really old-timers of SLOC.
