End of season (?) ride to Wilson Park Granite City. I'd hope to do a short loop of MCT trails, but too late. After swim, machines, and orienteering of last two days, legs felt surprisingly fresh. Stiff southerly breeze.
River Front trail (both sides of river) in good shape. 200 m road near new IL port for bio-fuels is gravel but no more 'Trail Closed" signs to be ignored. Still lots of dirt being moved at port. Large piles of coal in IL - sign of cold winter? Lots of ash trees gone from Arch Grounds - sad, stupid, expensive, and environmentally unsound (IMHO). "Let's replace a monoculture of ash trees which might be in danger with an expensive alien monoculture which 'probably' won't be hit with the rust that hit plane trees in Europe."
Very few riders out. Saw fox (too large?), coyote (wrong ears?), or dog duck into woods near trail.
[Clarification: the canine ducked, I did not see a "dog duck".]
