Orienteering race (Castletown House) 1:25:17 [4] 7.4 km (11:31 / km)
slept:8.0 shoes: VJ Bold

Leinster League #3 - Blue - 3/20

This felt like physical torture in certain places. I was scrappy to #2 (my first introduction to the forest and I wasn't keen to rush into the brambles) and again to #5 which was heavily overgrown and not on a distinct feature. However, I hadn't realised just how horrid the forest could be until towards to end of the long leg to #6 when I cut into the forest too early and got surrounded by high brambles. I took several minutes to cover less than 100m.
After this I found most of the controls had an element of bingo to them as it was unclear what the best route was from the map, and several features were indistinct, so I was just kite-searching.
The race culminated in the worst section of forest - less than 70 m along a ditch to #19 - where I struggled for far too long to fight my way through the brambles and was regretting running this course at all.

Was so glad to be finished. Most others seem to have had the same reaction, except for Kyle who "enjoyed it".

Cycling (Phoenix Pk Laps) 1:36:00 [2] 36.2 km (2:39 / km)
ahr:126 max:157 slept:6.5

Cycled to Phoenix Park, did 3 laps, cycled back to Trinity.

First time out cycling with Trinity Tri Club, hiring a bike (Trek 1.2).

Was nice to get out on a race bike for a change, but the session was very short and slow. Wasn't the long cycle I'd anticipated so an easier training day than expected.

Note
slept:8.0 (rest day)

Had to actually knuckle down and finish off this SfN poster - so boycotted training.

Running long (Dublin Chimneys) 1:20:15 [3] 15.8 km (5:05 / km)
ahr:158 max:168 shoes: Asics Duomax Ladies

Tried to push hard and keep an even pace throughout. Managed this well enough fluctuating above and below 5 min/k pace. Twas fabulous running along the Bull Wall with the waves crashing. Glad it wasn't windier or I wouldn't have risked it. Got stopped at lights right near the end to miss the unreachable 80 min goal.

Running tempo (Duhac 6m loop) 48:11 [3] 9.8 km (4:55 / km)
ahr:164 max:171 shoes: Asics Duomax Ladies

Wet weather lunchtime run, so wore my rain jacket. Route a little shorter than usual as I started from Lloyd Building. Not very exciting. Started easy as was feeling yesterday's intervals, but was pushing towards the end.

Running warm up/down 12:00 [2] 2.2 km (5:27 / km)
slept:9.0 shoes: Asics Duomax Ladies

Joined Briony, Vincent and some other guy for a warm-up jog mixed with marathon chatter.
Followed by drills.

Running intervals (College Park) 19:09 [4] 5.0 km (3:50 / km)
ahr:176 max:184 shoes: Asics Duomax Ladies

5 x 1 km/ 3 min

Feels like ages since I've done intervals. Felt good for first 3, then felt stomach cramp for 4th, before picking up the pace a little again for the last.

3.46 - 3.45 - 3.47 - 3.58 - 3.53
7 PM

Running warm up/down 15:15 [2] 2.4 km (6:21 / km)
shoes: Asics Duomax Ladies

Easy jog chatting to the new girl, Maria, that was kicking my butt in intervals and other new girl, Sorcha, who does race-walking.

SE Relays - Mens Open - 3rd

"Lurch" Short - "Cousin It" Hussey - "Uncle Fester" Heron

The DUO Adams Family Team started strong with Lurch coming back in 2nd about a min behind Jonathon Quinn. I set off cleanly, immediately having to enter the overgrown forest for #1. Lost time by following Sprint Map rules in the first half of the course, realised no-one else I saw was so took more direct routes for 2nd half. Relatively clean other than those silly routes...and running to the wrong spectator, oops.
I dropped us a position, setting Uncle Fester off just behind Colm. He held on to third place.
I wonder how things may have been if I hadn't started so unnecessarily law-abiding. Damnit.
