Note

Felt fine physically which just shows my lack of effort/interest after first half yesterday. So sleep deprived though. Oh well will have to make up for it at the JK.

Orienteering race 2:18:09 [4] 10.6 km (13:02 / km) +735m 9:41 / km

Not a good start, got 3 hours sleep the night before due to some danish tosser who got pissed, talked absolute crap then snored all night. I got out of bed and shook his bed, he stopped for 30 secs, after a bit Bown got up and shook him. Then at about 5am I got really p1ssed off and threw my book at him which seemed to work.

Started ok nav was good and running steady to 9 then lost time at 10 when from the map it looked like I could cut round the bottom of a crag, I couldn't and ended up doing some rock climbing. Then good to 13.

On the way to 14 the heel pads I was wearing started to slip forward under the arch of my foot, this was really frustrating and uncomfortable so I stopped and took my shoe off...then I stopped for a piss...lost about 3 mins total fannying about. Then it was all going wrong as I started to get tired at 15 I couldn't even see which re-entrant the control was supposed to be in but I was in one near to the centre of the circle but no control. Heel pads slipped forward again but couldnt really do anything about it but it was very uncomfortable.

Lost time at 19...didn't get it, route was good but didn't find it, seemed a few people had trouble. Told Andy L where 25 was so taking all credit for his result ;-). Then ok till right at the end, very tired still running when I could but wouldn't say I was really racing after 14 just not fit enough for that terrain. Lost my mind on the last control as I was convinced the control was on the crag, even looked at the description several times and still thought it was on the crag. Still thought it was in the wrong place after I finished till someone pointed out it was on the hill not the crag!

Pleased with my nav when I wasn't ruined but basically the terrain was just too tough for my current fitness level. Pretty embarressingly long time. Not so happy.

Orienteering race 40:02 [5] 5.3 km (7:33 / km) +225m 6:14 / km

Schoolboy, realised 30 mins before my start that I'd left my shoes at the hostel so compass point kindly took £75 off me.

Slightly dodgy to no.1 as I got used to the scale and the map, then it all went wrong at no.2 when I decended the hill that the control was on, took me at least 30 seconds to realise what I'd done and I lost at least 1.5 minutes. Grrr so frustrated, sorted it out after this nav was good but I never felt like I was running that hard. Few other 10 sec errors.

Run was ok but so annoyed about the mistake at 2 as without it my time would have been reasonable. Damn.

Note

No time today thanks to yesterdays budget (20,000 extra student numbers for 2010/11), left work at 7.30pm and had to take the BOK circuits session at 8pm to which 3 people turned up...not too bothered about getting some rest before the weekend though.
