HBMR 1st.

For those who don't know the story of Borrowdale Dominance
https://www.facebook.com/groups/44498401718/permal...
and Dark Peak have been trying hard for many many years to break the trend so was very happy to help the club out to win this. I know it means a lot to the club and happy to be part of it.

Ran leg 2 with Matt and after a good first leg by Little Rob and PeteHodges we went out in second 40seconds behind Borrowdale, 10 ahead of CVFR and 40 ahead of Keswick.

Set off at a nice pace up the track then took Rhys' line on the climb which was good and I was grinding out the pace and managed to run every step. Matt was struggling a bit at the end and had been caught by a Keswick and CVFR guy but not by the pair and so I ran 20m ahead at a steady rate and he managed to hold on but by High street we were all 6 together with Borrowdale a long way ahead and Matt was struggling to climb.

Then we got to the steep decent and we dropped like a stone and amazingly had a huge gap somehow held it up the scramble and to the tarn and then we were flying again down the next hill and starting to catch Borrowdale but there just wasn't enough downhill.

Thanks to the last descents we ended up pulling away enough to win our leg. 3min slower than last year but that isn't that surprising.

Then Sav and Neil held onto Borrowdale pretty much and put even more time into the Chasers and Kris and Rhys won the leg by 5min to make sure we won. New course record by 3 seconds.

Running 2:01:30 [2] 21.02 km (5:47 / km) +909m 4:45 / km
shoes: Asics Fell Shoes

Some rough routes in the Pentlands. Steep climbs and off the tracks made for heavy going at times. Got some Asics trail/fell shoes as the grip looked really good. It is grippy but also like a block of plastic taped to your foot. The sole is rather solid. Got sore calfs doing all the hands on knees climbing. Not sure if shoe related or not.
Weather was very nice but then on top of Turnhouse the wind was so strong I could barely move so dropped back down in the valley quickly.
